A1 Models Hunslet - Chassis running.

The chassis for this thing is finally up and running, although I've yet to fit the pick-ups.

Before fitting the chassis together I sprayed the wheels and chassis, masking off the important bits, with car primer followed by a coat of Precision 'Frame Dirt'.

Wheels are lathe turned Romfords from the West Coast Kit Centre. I've used Markits axle nut covers to improve the appearence of the wheel centres. Gearbox is a High Level Loadhauler+ with 108:1 reduction and the motor is a Mashima 12/24. When the pick-ups are fitted and I'm happy with the running I'll fit a flywheel. The motor sits on and will be attached to a Sellotape 'Sticky Pad' cut in half with the two halves stacked on each other, which will allow the motor to float nicely but still stop it moving too much.

Here it is under power;

After a bit of tweaking it runs nice and smoothly.

Looks really nice Paul, just out of interest what is the haulage capacity of the little chap?

Nick, Having a couple of loco's with rather similar mechanical set-ups, the answer is probably 'plenty': of the order of 25 or so wagons on a flat layout depending upon the amount of ballast. This shouldn't be too much of a problem with this particular Hunslet...

Cheers Adam,

25 wagons isn't bad for a small loco.

If I ever find out Nick I'll let you know! Adam's right, I haven't the space, or enough wagons, to find out.

Perhaps when it finished I'll try and persuade Paul (Worsdell forever) to let me loose with it on his EM layout at an exhibition... not that this one is really good enough to appear in public.

I realise this is an old thread, buy, I am trying to mount the motor in my 14xx comet chassis. the motor fits between the frames nicely and I tried using sticky fixers, (cut in halfnd stuck together), but, I think it is floating too much. The gearbox and motor assembly are mounted around an axle, but occasionly it must "float" too much an I get a squeaking noise. (which I assume is the worm and gear not meshing properly) if i push the motor down this is cured

Any other ideas how I can stop this?

IKB - first of all which gearbox are you using?. Do you get the squeak running in one direction or both directions? Does it squeak with the rods removed?

Paul.
