Plans for 'modelling season'; and other recent(ish) stuff!

No, I'm afraid no exciting new parcels with 3D prints this time, but more of that sort of thing coming soon!

It has been a year now since my Victoria Bridge project started properly, with the major woodwork and scenic basics appearing in a flurry of activity last Christmas and New Year.

Progress has been slow since, but I'm plotting another burst of activity over the coming festive season to get the scene looking much more complete!

I had tried to fashion the abutments from Das Clay, but they were a bit of a failiure due to over enthusiastic application of clay without the benefit of careful measurement, or pictures of the real thing.. it was more of an experiment at the time and in hindsight, a bit hopeless.. but thats part of the fun. New abutments are on their way from Shapeways, I will report on these soon.

They will include novel features like arches 'in the right place'... see dotted line :blush_mini:

I'm currently having fun building up layers of colours and speckled-ness with paint and varnish to suggest a river bed, next step will be to tease some wire wool or similar to look like reeds swaying in the water, to give the impression of movement, followed by more varnish!

'People Movin....

The little Class 139 has seen service, with its posh new bodyshell, on Wyre Forest MRC's Kinlet Wharf, these pics were taken a couple of months ago at Barrow in Furness where we were made most welcome and had a great trip up North West!

Finally, some recent 'Victoria bridge moods'... pardon the blurry pics, but at least they add an impressionist quality. This is giving me a devil of a time wondering about weather conditions for the diorama!

Hi Will.

The PPM is looking great!

I've often wondered about replicating conditions on a layout other than 'dry'. Snow is the obvious one, but also autumn, with lots of leaf fall or wet, as in your photos. The problem there is the very fine line between scale 'wetness', and looking like it's just been dipped in gloss varnish!

Fog is another interesting one, a small layout encased in a suitably sealed box hooked up to one of those smoke machines you can buy for parties could produce some interesting effects, especially with all the lighting effects available today!

I like the idea of a foggy layout, a sealed box of unspecific 'smog', a few LEDs and some good quality sound effects and you are ready to go!
