Station signboard..
I picked up this Langley Models signboards kit for the grand price of £2.80 a few shows ago, thinking they could be assembled to bear a strong resemblance to the one at Glenfield, even though they are shown as 2 separate boards with the name Arundel on the packet.
Yesterday evening I decided to modify them and paint them, in order to put them together in the distinctive angled shape shown below ( probably has a technical name ).
I have spent the last couple of hours happily doing exactly that, and I think the result has exceeded my expectations for this rather coarse casting - it looks very Victorian and very close to the prototype board at Glenfield.
The first photo shows me using a lump of balsa wood as a jig to offer up the two boards to the central post. The support is a scrap of brass glued to the central posts arm
Once in position, and held tight by the balsa, epoxy resin was carefully pushed/ dripped into the joints, to hopefully hold the whole assembly solid when I come to extract it from the balsa and install it on the station platform.
The board needs to be high enough to easily clear the disgonal fencing at the rear.
The second post shows our friend Lady Muxloe posing against the signboard, doubtless aware that a photographer is setting up his tripod and plate camera just across the lines..
Regards,
Chris
