Baseboards now built

Gilly

Update the baseboards are now built. They have had cork applied to the top of 3 of the boards as the 4th board will be used as the fiddle yard using a casset system.

Once the PVA glue has dried i will paint the top of the cork grey and then i will drill the boards so they can be bolted together and drill holes to carry the wires. Once painted i will start laying the track in place lightly pinned untill it is balisted.

Nice bit of wood butchery! I must say your woodwork is better than mine!

looking good so far, what size are these boards? Having a guess I estimate 4ft x 2 ft,

Just one thing about nuts and bolts can I make a suggestion?

Why not use some pattern makers dowels to align the boards, and use some over centre catches on the side members to pull and hold the boards together?

If you plan to make this layout portable to shows, it will save a lot of faffing about under the layout trying to locate pins and nuts.

Just a suggestion that's all.

I'll keep an eye out for your next blog entry.

Cheers!

Frank

Hello frank and thank you for your comments.

The boards are 4ft by 2ft, with the board alignment i haven't decided what to use as the front as i will have a ply wood front to hide the screws etc, so may use the bolt and wing nut method to hold them together, but i'am hoping to have talks with other EXE MRS members and see what they have used on there layouts and expand my ideas.

I hope to have another blog entry to be up in the next few days as i've now painted the cork white and once dried i will be drilling holes for wires etc.

Thanks

Simon
