Return to Loose Ends

A discussion over in the Little Didcot thread about broad gauge track reminded me that I've said little about Loose Ends for nearly two years. Mind you, I've also done very little with this little layout on a few boxfiles. After the warping disaster, I put the boxes back on the shelfs where they stayed for most of the next year. However, the embankment section has had a new foamboard track bed without cork and a short section of dual gauge double track has been laid and ballasted.

The track was relaid using copper clad strips for the baulks and balsa for the transomes. As before, the rail is from the Broad Gauge Society stores.

The tilt wagon has suffered a little when one of the cats mistook it for a small animal and discovered what happens when it is pushed off the cliff at the end of embankment.

Good to see Loose Ends again, Nick! And glad to hear you've managed to get closure on the warping disaster :-)

That BG track looks very tempting, very nice ballasting too. I assume the wagon is one of the BGS offerings?

Thanks, Kelly and Mikkel. Yes, the wagon is from a BGS kit and I have several others to built. Sometime, I must rebuild the bridge section and maybe even the 'station' area where the warping was first noticed.

Nick,

That's right up my street, I really do like broad gauge trackwork simply because it is so different. When the loft gets a bit warmer I'll have to try to do a bit more to my Trefallion layout.

I did even think about trying to model baulk road in 2mmFS :-)

Hi Ian,

I've just been looking at your Trefallion blog again and realised I must have missed a few entries when I've been away. That's so easy to do with the blogs so I've clicked the "Follow" button to make sure I don't miss anything in future. Hope you get back in the loft soon.

I was tempted to add a siding in standard gauge baulk road to my Camerton layout, but the desire to stick to the prototype intervened. Maybe one day, I'll have a go at the next station to the west, Radford and Timsbury Halt. Here the main running line was inside-keyed and at least part of the colliery loop and siding was baulk road.

Apparently, some people have done baulk road in 2mmFS. I'm sure I've seen a photo of one layout somewhere, and there was an article on making 2mm track as long ago as 1981 in the BGS Broadsheet no 5.

Hi Cornamuse,

Glad you like it, I thought you might find it interesting after your comments on Castle's thread.
