Roxey Summers Iron Ore Hopper part 6 - Hopper 2.

After forming the sides to suit the ends I double checked the angle against a side rib, then tweaked the hopper to suit;

Rechecking against the ends resulted in a gap;

So again the sides were tweaked to get rid of the gap;

Which means that the angle of the ribs are out;

I spoke to Roxey Mouldings about the problem - on the test build he kept the hopper body in one piece, which resulted in gaps aound the bottom of the ends due to the base being too wide but the angle of the ribs fitted the body side.

After discussing the problem we decided that it may be easier to adjust the angle of the side ribs by gently sawing part way through the inside of the angle...

...allowing it to be bent to suit the hopper side.

I now need to bite the bullet and start soldering!

Looking good chap, good luck with the soldering and more work needed hay? This isn't good is it atleast Dave is working with you and advising but seems to me like this is gona be an on going problem as the new batch will be exactly the same!

Atleast anyone whos thinking of having a go will be more the wiser after seeing your fots and reading the details on the faults the kit comes with!

Wonder if this is a good time to ring Dave up and go thru this lot before the ICI version goes for production as to avoid having to do all the extra work needed!

Looking forward to more pics anyway.

Nice approach to be working with the manufacturer rather than just flaming him and moving on.

To be fair, the kit wasn't designed by Roxey, its from another range of 7mm kits thats been reduced to 4mm.

Hi Rich,

The hopper body is being soldered up right now, blog entry to follow later today or tomorrow.

I had to wait until I got a few uninterrupted hours to myself before starting as it could be rather tricky! I find that if I'm distracted or if I rush I'm more likely to make mistakes.

My own kit arrived last week but I haven't opened the parcel yet, I'll get some more done on this one before starting it.
