Moving to P4 (Post 20)

I've painted some of the wagons now. The following needs Matt varnish and a little toning down of the white lettering, but it's pretty much complete. The livery is made up but sensible, I've seen examples of the same scheme and some RWS illustrations have it so I hope it's believable. Lettering is 4mm high and the NWR stands for North Western Railway. On the other wagon I'm going to use 8mm lettering and just have NW to represent the same thing, that wagon has grey strapping instead of black. Both wagons have been lightly weathered after painting, nothing too bad so still fairly new looking I hope.

Convincing?

Needs a bit of tiny lettering to represent the tare weights, and the wagon's own number. Then you'd be pretty much there, I think.

Don't know anything about those, what's suitable or where to get the relavent decals from? I did try painting "RETURN TO TIDMOUTH" to give it some individual flair but I removed it because I couldn't do it fine enough.

Knuckles you are a man who like sto have ago himself so how about trying some of those homemade transfers for the tare weights and Return to Tidmouth? I will be trying them out for myself soon, just got to work out what month I can afford to buy some more railway supplies.

I don't know how to make my own decal things. I know you get the special paper but I don't think my computor has lazer jet and I've heard ink jet isn't as good with results.

The other problem is the weight and other numbers I don't actually know what is needed prototypically. However, I am thinking of buying a book on wagons at some point.

A nice looking wagon; my only observation is the clean looking lettering on a lightly weathered body; I think this could be toned down a fair bit for a more convincing appearance.

It will be! But thankyou :)

Apart from the lack of tare and other numbers (that after research I want to add) I've dulled the white down and dusted the whole thing a little more. I don't want this wagon looking too decrepid, sort of fairly new but used abit.

That's sort of what I'm after. Been in use a while and has gotten a bit grubby, but isn't overly rusty and generally in good nik. There is a teeny bit of rust detail here and there but it's very mild. Around the buffer shanks you may see a litle bit in these pics. I'm thinking of varying the effects of the wagons, so some can be pristeen just out of shops, some like this, some abit more battered and others like late BR about to fall to peices.

I like buggered wagons, more interesting than new ones for some reason.
