More Painting

Just more spay painting.   The battle suits have taken multiple coats of primer to cover their existing paint.    All the drones are in black now, as are all the infantry.   I picked up the infantry already basecoated.   Saves some time.   In keeping with trying to clean up stuff on my bench, I finally primed my Firefly after nearly a year.    I haven't needed it, so urgency was minimal.   Tonight saw the suits under black for the first time.    I need to turn the

Progress & Change in Plans

So, first off, I think after this entry, I'll switch to a workbench thread.    The blogs here seem to get very little traffic, and I'm an attention whore.   I do want commentary on what I can do better.   We had a short break in the weather, with reasonable temps, so I took to the cardboard box that qualifies as my spray booth.   The Heller/Airfix/Tasman de Havilland Dragon Rapide is almost finished.   Two small detail paint jobs, window frames, and reattaching the struts sho

Renault 8 Gordini 1

Sorry I didn't post last week.   Culmination of excuses led to no work done at all.   Shameful, but I suppose this is a hobby.   Modelling is neither my job nor my life.   Sometimes, I need to realize that.   Anyways, I've started streaming!  I figured, should I be able to drum up enough interest, I might turn a buck or two doing what I do anyways.   So I started a Twitch.   New laptop for it and everything.  I'll link it below.   With the energy I've found from having a reas

8th Army 4

Finally got around to painting the bases for my half-squad of Bolt Action 8th Army;   Just the one coat.  Don't want bare plastic, but I also didn't want to spend two weeks layering color.   I mounted the figures and based them, too.   All done; I have no idea why the photos are so yellow.   Whatever.    Maybe a little glib with the sand.   If it bothers me, I can pick them clean.   Gets them off of my bench, though.     Airbrushing is on hold at this point, though.

Done

Sorry I've been quiet.   Just haven't taken time to write here.   Firstly, I finished the two cars I've been dragging out. The Volkswagen; Paint did not come out perfect, but still.   This has been sitting half-built in my backlog for over a decade now.   Lack-luster paint was less important than finishing the build.   Next, the Alpine-Renault; Paint is markedly better, but the decals tweaked on me.   I've had bad luck repeatedly with Tamiya waterslides.

VuGowe Nightmare

I finished the model for my local Gundam club's contest.   At least, I'm calling it done.      More work was had on the centaur.   I'm going to plan and finish the 'human' torso before I go farther with the 'horse.'  The paint guide I found for a palomino is about 90% pastels, so I want to minimize handling before clear.   I also made treacle tart.   Went over well.   Here's to the contest.

Another Slow Week

I need to do more work.   Work was slow at work, so I had the bright idea to bring a Gundam to build at work.   Took me a day-and-a-half.   I do enjoy the Gundam kits, especially the Master Grade kits.   They are snap-fit but entirely rewarding.   Here is the F91; If any of you are Gunpla fans, this is the Ver. 1.0 of the MG F91, and an early run kit, too.    I have built the 'Harrison' version before, so missed out on the Rafflesia stand seen here.    Both stand and kit could use

Not-a-lot

Not much this week.   Started working on a new contest model.   I haven't done much yet.   Mostly, I have started the conversion work.   I have only a month yet.    Here's to a decent finish.

Failures

Firstly, apologies to the 40 or so people who seem to care about my work.   The past two weeks have been nuts.   We moved office at work.   I'm calling the pirates done.   Off the bench, warts and all.   I could do better, but they're not characters or any special job.   Just grunts. And out of focus.   My Magister is coming along OK.   Yellow is a pain, and I'm slogging along with Model Master paint on it so far.   Chicago weather doesn't help.

Pirate Zaku & Centaur

Maybe I should title these usefully, huh?   First off, the contest I built the wolfman for came and went.   I didn't even place.   Disappointing, really.  I had decently high hopes.   Maybe the SD contest will go better.   Speaking of the SD contest, I've started on paint - maybe a beat early. Base colors here;   Additional filling on the head.   I greatly overcomplicated the build with this aspect.   Here's some parts that I thought only

Sd. Kfz. 250/8 Neu 2 & Other

So, two weeks & 156 track links in, I realize I have the wrong hafltrack;   What I have here is a Sd. Kfz. 250/8 Neu.   What I needed was a Sd. Kfz. 250/8 or the like.   The hull is wrong, noticeably so.    Should feature a peak about midway down the crew area.   I'm really annoyed as I spent much time fiddling to get the tracks assembled.   I'll have to keep an eye out for the correct 250 from Dragon, so I can use these tracks I've already finished.   I started bui

Guess What?

I seem to be making quicker progress on the Tau.   I am currently picking-out panels and the bodysuits with Vallejo English Uniform.      My original plan for the battlesuits (big dudes up front) was to use English Uniform on the visible frame.    I felt that the contrast was too sharp.   Painting the frame this color would have been overwhelming.   Instead, I turned to picking out a fixed pattern of individual panels.   There is still variance, but such is present on the model itself.

More building this week, stacking up more painting. Firstly, some 28mm 8th Army by Warlord games, intended for their WW2 game Bolt Action The sprue I had came as a pack-in with last month's issue of Wargaming Illustrated.  I'm not subscribed, but I might at this point.   I'm starting to bite more into the wargaming culture, though WI is aimed more at historical wargaming.   Only one of the four games I play is historical, and I don't need further expansion.   Secondly,

Infinite Hold on Space Reds

Apologies for skipping last week.    The 26th was my birthday.   I hopped around some hobby/game shops in Chicagoland, then played X-Wing at the local.    Friday got out-of-hand, but that's neither here nor there here, is it?   As of Christmas Eve, I putting the Infinity on hold.    I plan on using some patterned Plastruct sheet to dress-up the bases.   I find myself without a compass or circle-cutter of any nature, though.   Except, may, a brace-&-bit, but that would be excessive.

Scooters 1

Apologies for the lack of update last week.   I was with friends till late.   I admittedly haven't done much.   I sprayed additional coats of color on the scooters;   Decided on green with the Honda.   Probably ruined the paint on the Yamaha.   Well, I'll (eventually) take a closer look.    Other blog will be updated, as the only other modelling I've done is more pertinent there..

Finished

Two projects finished in the last week.   I know it is not perfect.   Mistakes made on the Dragon will hopefully be remedied on the next build.    I only plan on one more airliner, though, and that kit scares me.    Still, finished as I consider.    I get to display it on the club's layout on Saturday for our one-and-only show this year.  I chose 'City of Birmingham' as I wanted one that wasn't modelled frequently, and named for a city in GWR territory.   Important, that.

Contesting

Most of the week was working on a new project.    I have decided to enter a new contest.   The group I am with, Gunpla Builders of Chicago, is doing a coopted contest with a regional group.   The theme for the build is Gundam Build Fighters.   That theme was described as just custom work.   So, I'm going a little wild.   This is what I have so far;   No paint as of yet.   These Gundam kits come molded in color, and are normally snap-fit.   This build uses parts from Gun

Valentine 3

So, the Valentine is at a pausing point;   As I mentioned before, the tracks that came with the kit are worthless.   I will be picking up the aftermarket tracks for this at some point.   Not right away, though.   I just bought an old Celica.   That's going to be a money sink for a minute.   Shame it's still winter.   Doubly shame I haven't a garage.   Working on the Celica is going to be fun.    We'll see.

More...Everything

Lots of varied work this week.   Primary focus at home was the Tau.   I finished magnetizing & building the Crisis Battlesuits from the first of my two boxes. These get tucked away in a case somewhere for a few months until it is painting season again.   I started building the next box.   Back to basic infantry. Only just started, though.   These go together very quickly.   Again, shake-the-box.   I experienced some drama in Dungeons &

Gundam XXX 1

I actually did a little bit of work this week.   Massive improvement over November.   Firstly, I made the correction I mentioned in the last blog;   With this correction, I have another whole soldier...whom I can find no current rules for.   Oh, well.   She's a proxy now, I guess.   I also started on another project I've been considering for a while - the Gundam XXX.   Making her look more like a Gundam.     Part-through th

Moving On

Last of the Tau is done. These are just a little less knock together than the troops, but still no real effort.   Mostly options slowing it down.   Each one has both arms and the left shoulder fitted with a rare-earth magnet for swappable weapons.   Built a one-off model for an upcoming army. Named model, Sister Novena or something like that.    No special rules, though.   Just sort of a showcase model.   When I get to paint, I'm thinking of messing with object li

Grass on the Field

I have a short post this week.    I bought a Woodland Scenics Static King at a reasonable discount.   Store I bought it from had used it once for the store layout.  I payed about 70% of list for the applicator itself.      Why do I mention this in my anything goes blog?  Why would I not post this in my trains blog?   Boom.   and a cruel close-up of one of the pauldrons;   I'm OK with some patchiness.    This is supposed to be a horror-movie sor

Fogging Out

Missed the update last week, but more to show this week for it.  Mostly in-progress of paint.  The contest Gundam model is in paint, now.   I picked up a Woodland Scenics Static King to do the fur.   The Magister is in yellow, and the Aston is in silver.    While iconic, my DB5 will end up being green. (Probably) See you next week.

Giant Robots...Maybe

If you've read my other blog, you'll know I ruined a couple of other projects this week.   Ruining the other projects kind of dampened motivation to do much else, so 'this week' has literally been 'tonight.'    One of two, I had picked up an accessory kit from Bandai, a stand for figures, that also establishes itself as a base for special effects accessories. The translucent purple parts are intended to represent some kind of explosion or radiation.   All six sections are mo
