Winter module - cottage details Entry posted by Barry Ten November 28, 2012 1,229 views Share
 Like many of the buildings on my layouts, this one is absolutely ancient but has been tarted up a bit to keep it in use. 20
RMweb Gold wenlock 4,044 Posted November 29, 2012 RMweb Gold Well worth tarting up Al! I particularly like the peeling render on the side wall. Having only a couple of windows lit works well, too many model buildings are spoilt by looking like Blackpool illuminations. Dave 2 Link to comment
SNCF stephen 468 Posted November 29, 2012 Superb work on this module. It really looks very cold and I feel sorry for the lorry driver. Seeing modules like this makes me want to do a winter module on my layout. 1 Link to comment
RMweb Gold 46444 6,267 Posted November 29, 2012 RMweb Gold That's a lovely image you've created there. There's almost a sense of a Christmas card feel to the photographs too. Wenlock's right also in the sense the cottage has a warmth about the lighting which contrasts nicely with the onset of a winter evening. Also, 'SNCF stephen' highlights the conditions the lorry driver would have to work in these weather conditions. A good friend of mine used to drive these older trucks. He said the cabs had no heating and you drove with sack cloths keeping you warm. Sleeping in the cab wasn't much fun either in the winter. A total contrast to todays modern truck cabs with all their luxury. 2 Link to comment
RMweb Gold Barry Ten 22,152 Posted November 30, 2012 RMweb Gold You'd feel even more sorry for the lorry driver if you could see the adverse camber on that bend - although you can get an idea for it from the second photo. I blanked out one window of the house, as Dave says, to get away from the Blackpool Illuminations look. There is no real need for an interior with the "trellis" type of windows and silk curtains beyond (bog roll) but I think a figure standing at one of the windows would look good. Warley saw me coming home with a Preiser snowman and some snowballing "youths" as well, so watch this space... 2 Link to comment
