Modernising the Bachmann TPO part 5

The Fatadder

More work this evening on the tpo brings it almost to completion

I started by finishing off the remaining windows, first adding the 8mm lengths of 40thou Evergreen strip to the upper and lower edge of the window hole before covering in filler.
This was followed by tidying up the new door window plates and gluing into position in the holes where the old door windows once were. At this point I realised that I had not removed the old door handles, so these were carefully carved off before adding the filler to blend into the rest of the door.

While this side dried, attention turned to the other side and the new plating on the doors. This needed another good coat of filler to blend the plasticard inserts into the surrounding door.

After giving the various areas I had been working on a good sanding down, before gluing the new window frames into position with Limonine. Once dry the frames were given a quick sanding down with an emery board to remove any remaining burrs from cutting.

The final area of work on the model was to add a new post box, this was cut to size from scrap plasticard using the Bachmann tooling as a guide, before gluing into place.

Once all the work on the model was finished, the next job was to apply a quick coat of paint to highlight any areas which require rework. I used Vallejo red (which matches one shade of RM red but not the model), this was chosen given how well the Vallejo paints brush as I want to keep as good a finish as possible before I partially sand down and respray the top coat.

This has highlighted further issues that need to be rectified, mostly the upper corners on the bodyside doors and one door panel.

The model was then reassembled for the time being (not helped by loosing the body retention screws). I have tested Phoenix paints Royal Mail red on the end (in the area which will be repainted in grey black) and it looks a really good match. It is going to be a while until it is warm enough to spray, so the project will now go on hold. When I do paint I will need to get the NTA and NUA sprayed at the same time.

For reference this is the coach I have modelled

Next on the TPO project will be doing the other side of the NUA, which needs the missing two parts scratch building (one of which can be seen on a previous NSA post as I drew up the NUA door at the same time.)

I am still looking for second hand DC Kits NSAs (unbuilt, badly built, part built) so long as the sides are complete as these are the main bit that will be reused.
