Update - Good morning - I had hoped to have a long productive evening last night working on the layout with the TV tuned to the UK elections...but it was one of those evenings where everything I began, started going wrong :(

To begin, I painted the platforms a beige colour as from the photos there are two different types of platform surface, however it looked so awful, I ended up overpainting with grey about 3 hours later. Then turned my attention to the backscene, which has been produced using a montage of sky from Kyle photos and then applying on top of a strip of Kyle mountain spliced together. The jury is out at present - I think I will redo it...but perhaps after the exhibition. It has sort of captured the effect I wanted...but not to the standard I was hoping for.

Last thing before I decided to call it a night was apply a little grey paint to the harbour side as a base to add further colours - Its not the right colour but should be easier to apply different layers on top.

All in all, I think I will have a night off tonight and try and forget about it as its going to be a busy last weekend...

Few pics attached...

Tricky things corners. Looking down from above is not the best view what does it look like from track level?

Donw - I have added a rather cruel trackside view above as I couldn't quite fathom how to add in a picture to a reply!...I could put in a small curved fillet, but its going to get messy and I am trying to limit all the extra little pieces to go in the box file.

The option option I am pondering is to leave the return end off and not attach it...but I do like the way it wraps around to enclose the scenic section and then does the opposite to enclose the fiddle yard end.

How about a strategically placed lamp post in the corner?

Hey Bryn

I will check the prototype photos - I don't think there is much at the end of the platform before the harbour wall.

Will keep it a right angle until last minute and then decide whether to include the return or leave it off.

Mind you, I see that Volcanic ash cloud has closed BCN airport again...so perhaps I won't be flying it in to UK next Friday afterall :(

Pete

it looks so much better at track level so I would leave the end piece on. Ideally the layout should be exhibtited at a high level ( always best for 2mm) or at least allow the viewer to get that track level view. For me that picture has the right atmosphere.

Donw - Thanks - agreed about the height issue...although this layout has been provided with a table by the Exhibition organisers as I couldn't quite work out how to get the legs in the boxfiles...its a great thought though...a boxfile layout with its own self contained leg structure...hmm...maybe next year
