Duke of Gloucester - All Lined Out

Yes,

I've finally got round to finishing the lining on the Duke of Gloucester - prompted by Narrow Planet sending me the proof for the plates which have now been paid for and will be away at the etchers soon.

As soon as the plates are painted and in place the whole loco will be varnished then I can get it back together for an ex-works photo shoot. It will probably get a "2 weeks into service" weathering after that.

I also have a DJH example in for refurbish, well, rebuild chassis wise :O I've also ordered a set of plates for this one too.

Will be good to compare the two side by side sometime to see if it's true about the DJH boiler being too short

The firebox castings for the DJH Duke are different than those for the DJH Brit, so I assume they got it right.

The fireboxs are pretty much the same, the issue with the DJH DoG is the boiler/smokebox is shortened to give a loco the same length as a Brit Why they did this I'll never know

If that is the case, Redgate, it may well be so that the whole lot (boiler + firebox castings) fitted the Brit footplate casting?

I've just compared the castings of the DJH DoG with the DJH Britannia, both of which I have samples of. The boiler and smokebox sections of both are identical, but the DoG kit that I have does have a noticeably longer (1 scale foot longer) firebox.

I'm wondering whether your sample was an early one, and whether DJH subsequently realised the error?

The footplate castings are different between both kits, and the DoG does have the correct "lip" at the front which cut into the bottom of the smokebox door ring. The Britannia one does not have the lip.

Maybe the case, when I get round to refurbing the DJH one I'll measure up the key features so we can pit this to bed once and for all ;)

Forgot to mention that the DJH DoG footplate casting is also longer than the Britannia one.

I'm beginning to think they put the wrong bits into the one you've got.
