  1. Having experienced the same problems with my 46256 i.e. consistent front end de-railing at the same point, I carried out the 'paper under the driving wheels' test and realised that my loco had the same issue. Having disconnected the front wheel coupling rods, dismantling the bottom end to access the driving wheels was much easier than on earlier Princess Coronations. I used a small strip of very thin aluminium foil instead of insulating tape in the bearing housing and reassembled the chassis. The piece of paper would not now pass under the font driving wheel. I tested Sir William at my club tonight over the same tracks that it had problems on previously and completed over 100 circuits of the layout without any problems whatsoever. Many thanks Silver Sidelines for identifying and resolving a problem that should just not happen on a £160+ locomotive. Hopefully Hornby will accept that there is a manufacturing problem with this chassis and correct same on future releases.

  4. Hi Dave, Will you be publishing views online of the weathered samples when you get them back from Mercig and prior to sending same off to the factory? My order is for 12 x BR steam era weathered wagons and I would prefer to have early an sight of them just in case I decide to change the order to pristine versions and weather them myself.

  6. Thanks for your input. Swindon did always like doing things it's own way, so I suppose that they could well be behind this mystery.
  7. Can anyone advise at what point and for what reason Stanier mogul 42968 had its front buffer beam changed from the smooth version as shown on photographs taken in the early 1960s to the riveted version with which it was withdrawn from BR service and has subsequently carried throughout its preservation career. Looking at various shots of the class, both styles seem to have been carried at various stages. The three Bachmann models all appear to have smooth front buffer beams.

  10. I don't know if this question has already been asked, but can anyone enlighten me as to the reasoning behind the buffer beam drop plate set up on the USA Tank locos. How many locos had them fitted and under what circumstances would they be found in the upright / horizontal position.
