  1. Hi everyone, I have found out that deltic 9021 was used on the Royal Train in early 1971 (January I think). I have been searching for a photo but can't find anything. I suspect the loco would have been in ex works condition, with a fresh coat of paint and looking immaculate so I'm wondering if anyone has a photo or can provide a link for when it was on the train or shortly afterwards ? Thanks Rob
  2. Well here we are a few years further on and today I hear that Dapol are making the GWR inspection saloon. I did write to them a while ago and got a reply saying they were always looking for products for the modeller but wouldn't say more than that. Now I just need to find out what livery it would have carried around 1970/71, there is a real lack of information on this topic. I did however find out that some of the Western ones went to Scotland which was interesting especially as I used to work on the railway and have been the guard on an Officers Special as it was known a couple of times, once enjoying dinner on board while waiting for the 'road' in platform 5 at Inverness on our way out West.
  3. I was a shunter based at Inverness and was asked to go to Perth for a few months on night shift to help with the stabling and shunting in the carriage sidings. I guess this was around 98. I believe they were shut down not long after but did however still get the occasional visit. I do remember that there was a regular DMU, if i remember correctly it was a class 101 3 car.
  4. I have a photo that I took at Old Oak Common shed in the early 80's of the 2 cabs of this loco. I have been searching the internet to find out why it was withdrawn on 1/12/79 and scrapped the following year, but I can not find any information. Does anyone know what caused its withdrawal? Cheers Rob
  5. Rumour has it that 55016 is on its way to Hornby in Margate to go into long term static storage in one of the factory's old buildings, alongside Bittern.
  6. Hi everyone just popped on here to mention my CD "An Electric Awayday" which will make an ideal stocking filler for Christmas. Please have a look, it's a great gift. http://www.delticsounds.com/electricawayday.html Rob
  7. I have just bought one on ebay and was trying to work out what class it might have came from. A couple of years back I bought the spare nameplate from MELD. Quite pleased with that purchase !
  8. I don't have any photos at the moment as they are still unpainted. The new model is basically on 6 2 metre boards and is so big that I'm making it in my garage, and here in Scotland it's to cold to work on it right now. I will get something sorted when it warms up a bit.
  9. Sorry I got muddled. They had cast numbers not arrows. Ooops
  10. Hi everyone. Some of you may know Pen-Gos from BRM and Model Rail Scotland where it was 3rd best in show a couple of years back. Pen-Gos, from old Cornish means "at the end of the woods" is a 00 gauge model based in Cornwall in 1970/71. The terminus station can hold 3 6 coach trains and the bay platform 2. Alongside the station is a small stabling point. Leaving the station the double track goes down an incline and over a 3 arch viaduct which crosses the river Gos. Then past the Pen Gos spring fayre and down past Porth Gos signal box, through the tunnel and into the fiddle yard. The junction at Porth Gos sees the start of the single line that follows the high level line at ground level over the river and in to Pen Gos tunnel and fiddle yard. The main station features the Station Hotel behind the buffer stops and a busy market at the bottom of the station approach road. This road has period cars and a bus heading for Plymouth. The station is in the process of a refurbishment with new canopies being installed on platforms 1 & 2 as those on 3 & 4 are in a very poor state with rust taking over, although the seagulls don't seem to mind. The platforms are individually numbered and feature working platform lighting in the open and under the canopy. Exiting the station Pen Gos church is hosting a wedding with every outside having their photographs taken. The bell tower has a speaker fitted that is ringing to announce the wedding. Beyond this there are various cottages each with a cameo from bee keeping to hanging out the washing. Just beyond these and the viaduct, the local scouts are camping out. Over the river the fayre has a vintage car show with some steam lorries and traction engines. There's a crowd gathered around the old fayre organ which is also fitted with a speaker. The heavily planted woodland also features bird song. The fiddle yard features 5 roads and 6 dead ends. A large portion of it is contained underneath the station so it is lit with LEDS and watched over with 4 cctv cameras. The overall shape is oval with the addition of the high level section ending with the station. Power is supplied by an NCE Powercab and a home made control panel operates all the signals, indicators and points. The locomotives are all DCC with the majority converted to sound. The decoders are all Zimo or ESU V4 with Coastal DCC, Youchoos and Legomanbiffo sound files. The fleet consists of Bachmann, Dapol and Heljan locomotives of classes 08 22 25 35 42 46 47 52 and 53. The rolling stock is all Bachmann mk1 and a rake of Bachmann Pullmans. Everything is fitted with passengers and interior lights. There are also a few freight trains consisting of a rake of parcel vans, bogie tankers, mixed vans, coal and no Cornish scene would be complete without the China clay wagons. I have dispensed with the Web site for now but there are some videos on YouTube under Pen-Gos model railway. I'm a bit if a novice to YouTubeing so I apologise for some of the quality. Please have a look and watch out for something more in BRM at a later stage. Rob
  11. I found this great way to make excellent rock formations without the need for any other products like bark. Plasticine. Simply form a flat mould made from plasticine that you can support. Make impressions into the plasticine from a rock or stone etc(i used real ballast).Make a sealed back cover with wood or headboard, leaving a cavity between the 2. Place the mould on the area you want and fill the mould with plaster and leave to dry (24hrs usually).Carefully remove the plasticine and the mould to leave very realistic impressions that can then be painted. On my new model I made the mould up against the backboard and placed screws through the board in to the cavity to allow the plaster to grip on to something to make it stronger. It's a bit messy and can use a lot of plaster but the results are superb. Rob
  12. Hi guys I can't find anything on the net about this, does anyone know if the cast aluminium arrows fitted to the electrics, Hymeks 47s etc were all the same size or were there variants according to class? If there were various sizes do you know what they were in order to try to narrow it down ? Cheers Rob W
  13. Many thanks for your response. I am pretty good with the soldering iron so I will have a look for this kit and decide how much beer is required ! Cheers Rob
  14. Hi everyone Does anyone know if the Western region Inspection Saloon has ever been made or is likely I be made in OO gauge. I'm very keen to have one in BR blue/grey livery but so far I have drawn a blank. I am not competent to build one or convert something pre made. Rob www.pen-gos.com
