My railway modelling interests include G Scale, O Gauge and also Micro layouts in various scales. I am a great fan of narrow gauge railways and minor lines. I have been interested in the railways of Devon all my life. I live in a small hamlet close to the North Devon line (The Tarka Line).

  1. The new Penstone bridge was finally manoeuvred into place this morning. The next task is to add ballast and re-lay the track. The train service is due to start on Monday morning.
  2. The old bridge was removed today. Work continues this evening and tonight to prepare the site for the new bridge. The line north from here is now disconnected from the rest of the network for a few days.
  3. Work continues at a pace at the Coleford Junction end of the Tarka line. The whole line from Crediton is closed until 19/4/21. The old bridge is ready to be replaced by the new one that was constructed last year. Today a practice run is taking place with the new bridge moving alongside the old one and jacked up to the same level. After this the track will be removed and the old bridge removed on Monday or Tuesday. The new bridge should be put in place next Friday. So for a while the Tarka line will be cut off from the rest of the network! I hope to post further pictures as the work progresses.
  4. Your Kidmore layouts have provided me with much enjoyment and inspiration over the years. I know the latest one will do the same. Thanks for providing such a welcome distraction in these difficult times.
  5. Work has come to a halt today because of the health risk to the workforce, which was planned to be 50+ at the weekend. The project will be delayed by at least six months maybe longer. We now have the surreal sight of the completed replacement bridge sitting in a field in front of our home and remaining there for a long time.
  6. The original bridge at Penstone (near Coleford Junction) is being replaced at the end of March. The Tarka line will be closed whilst this and other work takes place including the extension of Eggesford platforms. Today the first sections of the new bridge arrived at the work site next to the line. The bridge will be assembled here and raised up into position. I will post further pics when this happens.
  7. Great to see your railway on this forum, Mike. I remember first seeing it on the old GSM forum and have followed it closely over the years. It always inspires me and your modelling remains top class.
  8. Activity at Yeoford today where the operational base is located at the moment for the two week engineering works on the Tarka Line.
  9. Class 50 action at Crediton this morning with 50049 on route learning trips to Coleford Junction
  10. Hi Richard, Thanks for posting the videos about your new railway. I always enjoy watching a new railway develop. I started my line 14 years ago and I can still remember the excitement of my early plans and the initial track laying. I look forward to more posts from you. Paul
  11. A dual gauge garden layout is unusual but it gives you the best of both worlds. I look forward to watching the layout develop. Keep posting the pictures!
  12. Hi, I am impressed by your plans and what you have achieved so far. I started my garden railway 14 years ago and it has given me hours of enjoyment. I was interested in the picture of the track you are using. What is it as it looks dual gauge?
