  1. There are a few photos taken way back by HC Casserley, including a head on shot , probably for the same train shown above. That's about 1951 or 1953 just before passenger traffic ceased.  In the photo the loco is at the North end and the autocoach on the South end, it was basically a shuttle back to Pontypridd and terminated in one of the northern bay platforms of Pontypridd station.

Immediately North of the station the line run under a bridge in to a cutting as the line proceeded further, I think another halt was about a mile further up the line. Ynysybwl Halt was a very basic set up. The trackbed is still there, and the remains of the platform but that's about all. About 1/2 mile south is Ynysybwl station, the station building has been renovated and is now a surgey. The goods shed still stands too , although now empty, having previously been used as a servicing shed for a local bus company! There is an EM/P4 gauge model of Ynysybwl that has been exhibited in South wales, it's by one of the Cardiff model clubs and depicts it in pre-grouping era.

  2. Here is a video of Graham Mann's modern image layout Forest Gate Parkway, filmed by our own club member Brian Tucker (BRIAN T of the above post). FGP is one of the best modern image layouts around at the moment, but despite being in the model press is only usually shown in the South Wales area. all buildings are scratch built. Thanks to Brian T for the excellent video (his copyright). Graham will probably be running one of his latest purchases , 40+ Revolution Trains TEAs!!

  3. Posted in the Exhibitions section off this Forum is the following , posted today by Stuart Williams regarding his modern Image shed layout 'Loch Carron Lane', which will be appearing at the show.

Thank You to Stu for the info.

'Looking forward to seeing the layouts and exhibiting Loch Carron Lane.

A little bit about the layout

Loch Carron Lane is a modern image, micro 4mm DCC layout measuring just 3ft  x 1ft.

I purchased it in 2017 at Swansea MREX as a completed layout. It was being exhibited but also had a for sale sign on it and I snapped it up as i could see a lot of potential for it.

Since its purchase I have transformed it from a steam era layout into a modern day DRS themed TMD.

So far Ive added additional lighting, a new fuel point, a new depot with interior detail and extra scenic items around the depot but as you know layouts are never really finished.

Typical operation will be the shunting of locos around the Tmd, movement of drs support carriages, with visits by the engineers carriage caroline, some Tesco container wagons and nuclear flasks.

Rolling stock for this layout is over 20 DRS owned / liveried locos, some with sound from classes 20, 37, 47, 57, 68 and 90. Also visiting locos on the day from Network Rail and other operators.

Control is achieved using PowerCab Pro. The layout is controlled by one person. Pointwork is manual.

The layout didn’t have a fiddle yard but I have added this by modifying the shed so that a removable end section allows a fiddle yard to be installed and locos to emerge from the shed and gives variety for viewers to not know what is coming out the shed - the idea of this is based on the DRS Kingmoor depot which has a through shed.

Not on the exhibition circuit but did exhibit in Swansea last year which is when I was approached by Tony to exhibit at this show.

I dont have a webpage for the layout, but do have a small group on facebook which I put updates on as and when possible.

  4. Just two week and 6 days to go until our annual show.

Unfortunately MIB Models are unable to attend this year due to Alan's illness. So Lord & Butler will be the only  recognised trader. But we still have Tallyllyn Preservation Group and Club Sales stand in attendance. Sadly Alan will be missed but we wish him a speedy recovery and I trust he will fit enough for next year's show.

I the meantime I attach some photos of Abercynon Fach, Forest Gate Parkway, Shepcote Lane and Mutton who are all exhibiting this year. Shepcote Lane's working tippler is a joy to behold open its own. It'll be worth the visit just to see these four layouts , but there are another twelve(!) too, all for £3.50 entry.

  6.

Abercynon Fach can be seen again at the Pontypridd Show on April 27 this year. Please see the Exhibitions thread or Welsh Area Group thread for details of the show. It's well worth a visit.

#5 has landed. Waiting for me on the doormat this afternoon!

Previously issues have been dispatched in quite a stout thin cardboard envelope but this arrived in just a bog standard brown paper envelope! Perhaps some indication as to the distribution issues that have been mentioned up thread^

Luckily all in order and hasn’t been creased to death in the post.

Mine has arrived too, again as above in a plain unprotected envelope. Looks good though, plenty of green diesels.

  8. Hi Marc, good to see you at the Cardiff show. What a shame you've scrapped Carsmore's Yard, but it isn't it ironic to scrap the scrapyard? This following Brian Ts ripping up of his home layout Cog Road too.

I do like the creamery building in the above photos and I'm sure you'll find a space for it on a new venture. I'm on the verge of joining the EM gauge society but with my eyesight I can barely see the difference between OO and EM these days!

    Good luck
