  1. Inspirational stuff. So much so that I am embarking on my first attempt on a Dapol 56. A few silly questions, hope you can help me please.... On the respray you took us through on page 6 of this thread, you removed the handrails and jumper cables, but the most recent resprays on pages 33/34 you did not. Any reason why? The centre headlight has snapped off at both ends on mine, as I removed the cab interiors. I see this happened to the number 2 end on your recent 56029 respray. Was this an issue? Or did you have to replace the lighting sprue? What did you use to strip the bodies? And is it totally necessary? (I've had bad experiences in the past using various substances, which has sent many bodies to their graves) I haven't even looked at decals/transfers yet....any guidance? (especially things like overhead warning flashes) Any help much appreciated. And keep up the work - it's brilliant! By the way....any guidance on weathering the HAAs would be great...I've got just over 40 of them so far and I have no idea where to start.... Thanks Mike
  2. Where do you start with this monstrosity? An expensive O gauge model destroyed with terrible paint job and varnish.Simply painting over the skirts with black paint in the hope that nobody notices. Cardboard nameplates cut out with blunt scissors. Sealed beam headlight made from what looks like a Scrabble tile. And no effort at all in changing the nose-side grilles and part to a refurbished loco. Just seems such a waste of an amazing loco..... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/122314180607
  3. ......and don't forget to remove the inner sandboxes.....
  4. As we're talking about camouflage....the roof of this looks like the wing of a Spitfire. Most terrible job, which the seller is describing as "...a fantastic realistic job." (and 'Expertly Weathered', of course) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bachmann-31-652-Class-47-BR-Parcels-Sir-Rowland-Hill-Expertly-Weathered-/291784742256?hash=item43efb9d570:g:f-MAAOSw0QFXB93a
  5. Sorry to deviate away from the subject, but I have found something that looks REALLY DANGEROUS. One wrong foot and you've got one ton of prime beef cascading out of the wagon as the train pelts through Grantham at 75 mph.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kit-Built-12t-BR-Cattle-van-wagon-PRO-WEATHERED-LOOK-Read-description-/401026521714?hash=item5d5f0b1a72:g:gogAAOSwcdBWRg5R
  6. here's a great conversion. Love the paint job. Can't notice the varnish on the overhead wire notices on the front ends!!!! Were the Scottie dogs and names really mounted on 6 inch thick boards? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bachmann-OO-GAUGE-UNPOWERED-ETHEL-UNIT-No-97251-/221925451870?hash=item33abc9a85e:g:npcAAOSwT5tWMMnl
  7. Why is this wagon covered in splattered custard???!?!?!?!? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FLANGEWAY-BR-DEPARTMENTAL-MERMAID-BALLAST-WAGON-DETAILED-BESPOKE-WEATHERED-BOX-/371474761803?hash=item567d9f084b:g:K88AAOSwI-BWMSsy I once had the misfortune of buying a 'weathered' wagon from this guy and it was, without a doubt, the worst bit of weathering I had ever seen.
  8. Hi Steve I've had the misfortune to be scammed by this guy. His username on eBay is shau_cour, not shau.cour. He has also operated under the ebay username abbervilles_2014. Same guy, two eBay accounts and two different delivery addresses. Anyhow, it transpires that his girlfriend has cancelled all the payments ever made on her credit card via PayPal, which go back many many months, saying that her boyfriend made them without her authorisation. A terrible attempt at fraud, made even worse because they are so easy to track down! I ended up calling her at work, and after a while I managed to get my goods back (though still out of pocket for postage costs and auction/PayPal fees). She was very blasé about it and really wasn't interested...but I kept phoning....and got a result. Hope any other sellers affected here get their goods or cash back. If you need help or want to know what else I did to get my goods back, please email me....I'm not going to give their full names and phone numbers out on this public site. Shame eBay has people like that..... Mike
  9. Not quite sure where to start with this one..... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151790132740
  10. Here's an interesting one....lovely paint job, and such skilful lining !....... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bachmann-OO-GAUGE-REPAINTED-CLASS-108-2-CAR-DMU-/201320276769?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2edf9fa321 I like the quote from Rails, "NOT THE BEST PAINT JOB". And the price? £79.50. Well, you can actually buy a brand new green Bachmann 2-car class 108 DMU for just £72,50 from .....wait for it....Rails themselves!!! https://railsofsheffield.com/class-108-2-car-dmu-br-green-half-yellow-ends-JJJA18924.aspx Those guy are just genius.....

  12. Another eBay seller trying to fob off a cheap coach which came free with a £1.99 magazine as something else..... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/West-Coast-Railways-Mk1-SK-Charter-Rail-Tour-Jabobite-Highland-Scotrail-Modern-/291424151398?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item43da3ba766 Good luck to him, especially when Bachmann 'conversions' go for £40 (it's a very good 'conversion' - you can hardly see the film around the numbers and other decals!!!...unless that's just a paper sticker?). http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bachmann-039-OO-039-Mk1-FO-13320-ANNA-WEST-COAST-RAILWAYS-CHARTER-EXCLUSIVE-37-47-57-/400854954342?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item5d54d13166&nma=true&si=IvGqHEiavN%252BQcx4C0si0If900eQ%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 Actually, he's already sold one for £27.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/West-Coast-Railways-Mk1-SK-Charter-Rail-Tour-Jabobite-Highland-Scotrail-Modern-/291377114957?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item43d76def4d&nma=true&si=IvGqHEiavN%252BQcx4C0si0If900eQ%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
  13. This is interesting....forget the ridiculous price, I just love the fact that it hangs from his ceiling in his front room. Do you think anybody notices it when they come in to visit? That's a serious piece of engineering - like something you'd find at a dockyard! But that's not all...it has an ELECTRIC motor! AWESOME!!! I'd like to see the expression on my wife's face if I suggested such a structure in our living room. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-track-layout-With-Trains-Acceseries-And-Tool-To-Carry-On-The-Project-/261751356811?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item3cf198bd8b

  17. Mystery solved.....looks like "Rusty Rails" is a brewery in Pennsylvania (see link below). Now that answers a lot of our questions! www.rustyrailbrewing.com http://rustyrailbrewing.com/
  18. I have so many questions to ask, but don't know where to start...... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Scrapyard-00-GAUGE-class-37-diesel-loco-heavily-rusted-and-weathered-ref-1-/111561615878?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item19f9972a06
  19. Every single item he is selling is (or has been recently been) on special offer at the main mail order outlets. Oh, and most of it is listed in this forum. But then, why not? ....he sells about 25 items a week, each of which has a nice mark-up. Good little business. Actually, I'm surprised a lot of model railway clubs don't do this, to help pay for their costs.
  20. Quite a realistic looking loco for £100.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Heljan-26061-Class-26-D5320-BR-Blue-Full-Yellow-End-Weathered-DCC-Fitted-/251689332778?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item3a99da702a

  22. ...and he's willing to combine postage. A good deal if you are also looking for this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ladies-Black-Patent-Smart-Shoe-Boot-By-Pavers-Size-5-/161430256841?pt=UK_Women_s_Shoes&hash=item2595fe3cc9
  23. Interesting..... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171489237870
  24. Here's an interesting diorama..... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Scrapyard-00-GAUGE-inter-city-125-diesel-and-coach-heavily-rusted-and-weathered-/301340585422?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item46294c6dce So, bearing in mind this livery was being phased out in the 1980s, when the HSTs were barely 10 years old, I guess this scene depicts a typical HST in the early to mid 1980s? Personally, I can't recall seeing withdrawn HST cars hanging round Donny works with the Deltics.... P.S. The listing power car looks like it has flat tyres on the front bogie (well, I guess it could be possible?)
  25. Yes, I am see them popping up on websites as sets and now on eBay in parts (i.e. split sets). I recall 37417 DCC Sound sold for about £150, if you looked around. Today, just a year later, sellers are trying to sell these for £300... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bachmann-Class-37-Diesel-37417-BR-Blue-Large-Logo-Highland-Region-DCC-Sound-OO-/111478762899?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item19f4a6ed93 ...and selling the new 37418 DCC Sound for £155.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bachmann-BR-37418-AN-COMUNN-GAIDHEALACH-class-37-4-digital-sound-locomotive-/231352445564?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item35ddae2a7c Yes, the former is seriously overpriced at £300, but isn't this particular 37418 a bit of a bargain? Unless the new 'cheap' sound fitted to this loco is far inferior (I've not heard one or examined one yet). Mike
