  4. That coach looks like O scale. Well done! I'm envious of your obvious skill.
  5. Too much hassle to fix the many problems. I'm selling my 2es
  6. even the cheaper (than Hornby Mid range mk2es) european "hobby" coaches are better engineered than this stuff. Judging by what I see here Hornby should sell undecorated coaches (like the americans) and or make all the parts available to people who really are right into scratchbuilding? What really is the market that the manufacturers are chasing in the UK? 3D printing will kill off Chinese manufacturing because of the control that will be possible here and now without the long back and forward of samples. I always thought that Chinese made products were kind of melted looking!
  7. It is ridiculous to have to run the same types together due to the problems mentioned above. Does anybody realize out there that this is unacceptable? Don't buy them if they don't conform. How come continental HO nem heights are correct. I have never had so much frustration as I have had trying to go back to British OO. I am talking about run of the mill ordinary blokes here that don't "cut and shut", "respray" etc. IMHO it is ridiculous to have to go to these lengths after spending so much on models. Continental HO is NOT expensive as they need no alterations!!!! I know about size of markets etc but i think that this day and age the faults on the MK2e are appalling. No close coupling, colour wrong, lining wrong, lightbar too short, buckeye that is in wrong position (sorry that was a mk1 fault), door window too wide. If I were producing a model I would at least have it height tested against all the vehicles from all manufacturers that it would be likely to be coupled to as well as my own. Bachmann's mk1 - mk2 heights in OO and N are incorrect. As for buffers and couplings. There are standards????? Has anybody taken a Bachmann mk1 back to the shop and said " the coupling cannot be called NEM as it is the wrong height"? I cannot come back to British OO as it is still "faulty and jerry built". (Fairwell) I have calmed down since but I am not going to model blue grey era any more. Maroon, green and chocolate/cream.
  8. Did you alter the lighting bars? As they light up the end bay. Sorry I had a browsing malfunction. You already said you added extra light. Why are the vestibules causing you problems to light? I agree with everything you say about these models.
  9. Hornby R4610 BR blue & grey MK2E TSO tourist second open with lights Available at a box shifter near John Lennon airport now!
  10. My advice. don't buy ANY Hornby lighted mk1 or mk2. My poorly focused (apologies) and annotated picture shows why. Same light strip used for Mk1, 2? and unbelievably 3!!! I opened up the Mk3 thinking that I could try and light a Mk2. Gentlemen. You will be using the WC in the dark on all models. I do like the flicker free capacitor. So L will copy the circuit and make my own lighting strips and if I buy more Hornby Mk1 & 2s it will be the mid range with decoration and metal wheels. Close coupling down to Radius 2 is possible with One Roco and on HoRoco coupling. See pic. (both Railroad examples)
  11. Cameras have a lot to answer for. Telephoto views exaggerate the differences in livery and coach height. We never complained to the guard that the livery was incorrectly applied and wanted a refund. So it is that I am finding the Mk2es more acceptable over time. It's like wallpapering, Every little mistake is fretted about but in the end it is forgotten and the overall effect is what is enjoyed. Colour difference is another red herring as look at the filth a lot of blue grey stock carried. All this and the deplorable H Mk3 is sending me back to maroon days with the odd blue / grey........
  12. My railroad brake is the same as the TSO. Lower grey band.
  13. Does this mean that Mk3s were not matched to Mk2s on west coast trains livery wise? This picture answers my own question I guess. I never noticed when I travelled. It's like a spot the difference competition. Notice no yellow line on 1st class restaurant. So not as to go off topic I have found myself getting used to the new Mk2es livery blunder and phantom solebar ;-)
  14. Possibly the only time a Mk2f had a deeper blue stripe below roof? Glasgow - Edinburgh push pull.
