Hi there,
I came across your thread while I was searching for details of VR AW, ABW, & BW cars. I have built the AW & BW SEM kits, with another AW to be started, and an ABW currently under construction. It is constructed by adding window sections from both AW & BW kits as published in Australian Model Railway Magazine, February 1989. I found it is not the easiest of conversions to do, hence me adding yellow stripes above and below the window lines to conceal the joints.
I see by your conversion that it appears you have cut an AW & BW in half and joined them in the "right" spot. Seems a simpler method than cutting out parts of the windows in the AW & BW side and fitting them together. Do you have any photos of the interior of the finished product. According to the instructions when looking at the corridor side, the second class end is on the right. Also the details for the passenger emergency brake is to the right, looking at the side with the translucent windows. Is that the way you have done yours? So this a long post but I am trying to get the finished model as close to the prototype as possible. I may try and do another one later using your method.
Do you know if there is a kit anywhere for a CW guards van. I have a CV kit which is shorter than CW. Or is it possible to kit bash either an AW or BW kit. Hoping you can help me in some way to achieving my goal.
Ian.
EDIT: I forget to mention. How do you make the concertina pieces on the walk through to each car. I tried when I did my AW & BW kits, but I could not get it to work, so I placed them temporarily in "the to hard basket" intending to come back later. That was a year or so ago.
