Brilliant to hear. It turns out that my mum volunteers at the museum and mentioned about the expansion/change up in the railway section, and that's what sparked me here to see if it was related to further progress with this project. Can't wait!

Well, that's it. It's finally over. After deciding to build a new layout earlier in the year, I am now finally able to get on and build it! I had already got Kingbarrow booked for the Weymouth show so I thought I would keep it till then. It was a long wait, and didn't make any progress as I knew it was going to be trashed anyways. The exhibition was great! 30 stunning layouts, and I got to run my layout for the last time... until 10 minutes in... The uncoupling system broke, where the staple had finally ripped off the only uncoupling loco. I thought that I wouldn't need my soldering iron and was the one thing I left behind...which turned out to be the one thing that I needed. I was staying at a different house on Saturday night so I couldn't go and get it. This meant that I could only have an 'in and out' performance on the layout, so the lack of any uncoupling made things dull. Later, I had to take the boards apart (including removing the backboard and light holding board) and had to jump power from one track to another, making the isolators irrelevant and m meant that I could only run trains into one of the main lines and the loop. So you can tell that action on the layout got very boring, very quickly. To add to that, the clips on the boards didn't work so I was constantly re-aligning the boards and trains derailing. I got home, put the boards on the table and got started removing items. I salvaged 95% of the items and trashed the awful hills, the boards which were heavily used which left a rough surface. The only option was the skip, shame! I'm so happy to start my new layout, but so happy that my first layout got me started on doing proper scenery for the first time, and has taught me a lot to make it much better next time. It's that time of year again, the layout is off to the Weymouth Model Railway Exhibition, for the last time! Sad to say that next week this layout is being broken up. Since last November, I put the layout back on the table when I got home and haven't touched it in 9 months. A few reasons for this: One is that I can't operate the layout when it's at home, as the power board is put under my desk. This means i've lost interest in the layout and also I can only run in trains if I make an oval on the landing or take my trains to the club once a month. Another is the wiring. I used what I could find from school, so colour coordination was not bothered about, and has certainly annoyed me since. So nothing has happened. The buildings on the backboard still have outlines, the info is outdated on the signs, really the only thing thats progressed is getting a few more locos (pictured). I'm sad that it's going but I'm not too fussed, the layout was the first proper one I built, so there are many flaws such as the tight Hornby curves, screwing up the sidings so no trains can work over the three way point (it's not broken, just wiring) and the ###### hill at the back. So it will be broken up after the show this weekend, which is sad, but I'm looking forward to starting my next layout which will be a First Great Western layout based in the same Devon area. The period would be around the 2000's, With a mixture of Virgin Red, FGW, GWR and privatised freight companies from Freightliner to Colas Rail. Thanks for being part of the small jouney that this layout has been alive for. It's been a great starter layout but i'm really looking forward to start the next ASAP!

Just found out about his passing, it is a real shame. As an enthusiast of the railways surrounding Weymouth, including the Portland and Abbotsbury lines, I sometimes ran into John on threads about various discussions and I was always fond of including certain artifacts of the railways into his modelling, most notable his model of Easton Station. I wont mourn over John's death as much as others as I really didn't know him personally, but I sure will miss his new projects and what might have come. I will treasure what he has made and the help he's given to threads. R.I.P

Brian Jackson's books contain clean track diagrams, building blueprints looking from three angles (great for scratch building), and ofcourse a bunch of images you won't find on the internet.

Really love that you're basing the station on Castle Cary, for most of my life I change over at this station so holds a special place in my heart, and seeing it in model form is so delightful! Great work

I'm currently building a large warehouse almost identical to yours, however i'm puzzled on how to make the windows 'top brick curved arches'. Is there a template for the bricks? I'm just not sure how to go ahead and make it without ruining the large structure! If you need pics for what i'm saying my O gauge layout is linked below.
