Mainly the 1930s, specifically the East and West Coast Mainlines, with my favorite locomotives being Stanier's streamlined Princess Coronation Class. I am currently building a fictional layout, Ravenscliffe, inspired by stations like Dent and Appleby, set in the North of England, on the West Coast Mainline.

  1. Just thought I'd point out, it's Bishops Lydeard not 'Lydiard'.
  2. Which is why I prefer tail-chasers! With shelf layouts, the trains are often forced to crawl along, preventing them from reaching a realistic speed!
  3. Good point, well made. Unless you are willing to sacrifice on quality, (Railroad, or older locomotives, from Triang-Hornby, Airfix, and the like), or search the second hand market (which is also not always cheap!), larger RTR models are almost inaccessible to the beginner, which is not good for the hobby. Unfortunately, as mentioned above, quality comes at a price, which is why, I suppose, Hornby Railroad was introduced in the first place... Oh well.
