The rear pan is an emergency set up.
Automatically the lead pan is used. When units couple the pans will reset to use the out ends to reduce the wire disruption.
Not quite - there will still be differences. The west of England fleet will have more brake resistors for example so it can dynamic brake away from the overhead.
I quite honestly don't know, some of the modifications are post testing, others are to make them more suited to a longer period running on diesel (larger adblue tanks, derestricting power packs, larger fuel tank)
Nope, I definitely mean fuel tank. I flipping fitted them!
The tanks as designed finished some distance behind the skirt. They now follow the outer profile and add roughly 20% extra fuel capacity.
That is rather nice, however, the mode will only represent 800004 up to last week when the new style fuel tanks were fitted which now extend out inline with the skirts.
You would be better off asking in the structures or in the questions, help and tips section

I have the pleasure of maintaining them. I have walked down all five sets.
There is no obvious up/down through the vehicles apart from the gangway area as you leave the outer motor coaches towards the DPT.
The current sets can over power to compensate if one engine packs up.
It has to be remembered that these were "last leg" engines not primary movers and that the west of England fleet will be at the full engine power rather than the restricted iep rating.
