  1. Further to my previous post and with regards to your comment about lack of revs when increasing speed steps. When I was able to tweak Cv's 5/6 the thrash commenced almost instantly at the lower end. Bill
  2. Thanks for that Steve. My problem however is the acceleration speed. Having been so used to the V4 in the past it was easy to alter Cv5 and Cv6, it worked a treat. Not so with the V5. I have been advised to try the decoder in another loco or on the Lokprogrammer. Any ideas?
  3. Having used the ' Big Boom Box ' in most of my 37' fleet I am still trying to get used to the Accurathrash speaker which I have come across before as I have it fitted to a couple of West Highland loco's. It certainly has a lot more base and sounds better with the sound volume reduced slightly rather than at full volume. What's the thoughts of others?
  4. Nipped up to the loft this evening to give Loch Eil a run. B***!! Awesome! Had to open the window to let the sound out. Will take it down the club next week and literally blow everything out of the water! Detail is amazing! Would have waited another year for this. We'll, maybe not. Hats off to Accurascale! They have delivered.
  5. I'm way ahead of you here, have had the sound decoder and Accurathrash speaker waiting the arrival of Loch Eil which I believe is now winging its way to me very shortly.
  6. Probably covered before. Am I right in saying that the smaller speaker is not fitted to the DCC ready option. If not can I fit my own without any probs. Or is there one available as a spare from Accurascale. Apologies for not paying attention, will stand in the corner for the rest of the evening!
  7. Just got word from Rails, payment cleared for Loch Eil. Accurathrash and sound decoder lie in wait. Yezzz!
  8. Hi Andy , Nearly forgot. With regards to your thoughts on platform edging , when I did mine I used mounting board of the type you see in art shops. I tended to cut the pieces larger than they really were to give an appearance of area and weight. Also came across this pic of the water tank, unfortunately would have to had gone back under the cover of darkness to get a pic of the top !!!
  9. Hi Andy, Been trawling through my laptop but think I might have deleted some of the pics that you might have been looking for. After I completed Glenfinnan I had a clearout. Here is a pic of the box which is in the livery used up to the late 80's. I think the present colours are somewhat later and were the same colours used for the station building. I have also included pics of both platform shelters, one in model form and the other as is !
  10. Hi Andy, I am having some difficulty tracking down some of my photos of Glenfinnan as I had a bit of a clear out . I am still looking.
  11. Andy, Following on from my previous post. I did investigate the the siding / gradient which went off behind the signal cabin and small store as I intended to model the two coaches used as dining/cafe and camping coach which sit almost adjacent to the station building. Again, will have to consult my records. Bill.
  12. Hi Andy, Strangely enough the subjects of your photos were exactly the same problems I encountered, amongst others, when I was building my version. My chosen period was based loosely from late 1970's to late 1980's. This necessitated the building of two platform shelters and two signal cabins. Will consult my laptop and see what photos I kept as a general record and keepsake of my builds. Bill.
  13. You should have stashed it away somewhere, they are making a comeback, big time! and fetching good money!🚗
  14. Hi Andy , I may still have some photos I took on the numerous trips I made to Glenfinnan of buildings, track and other bits and pieces. Let me know if I can help out with anything. At the risk of turning this into a Classic Car discussion, I have had my Midget 1500 for 27yrs and it's the only thing that keeps me sane in this ' crazy world '. The smile on people's faces as you drive past is priceless! Bill.
  15. Hi Andy, Having built and exhibited my 4mm version of Glenfinnan then you will understand why I shall be watching your progress very closely. By way of a distraction, I couldn't help notice the MGB in the background behind your friend. I have something similar in my garage only it's a 78' Midget 1500. Interesting ! But stupid ! not many will remember that quote! 😄 Bill.
  16. Hi, Just noticed your post, your ideas sound good so far. Very similar to my own although I am a little later in years. I'm particularly interested in your lighting sets and who makes them. Bill.
  17. Hi, Still not really got back into the guts of this new project yet. Hoping my trip to ModelRail and a couple of days on Ian McCreadie's superb Blair Atholl layout will fire me up. Meantime, work has started on the construction of the main station building which will be based on Wick. I decided to use Scalescenes printed papers over mounting card, further supported by foam board. I am using Photoshop to scale down original photos of the real station building as I did with Glenfinnan. The larger section is the main wall on the car park side and the smaller section with the square windows is the height the roof slopes down to on that side. What with the interior, it has given me a few headaches I can tell you. But, hey! ho!
  18. Hi, Sorry about the other two photos. Can't seem to be able to post more than one photo. Here goes again. Bill.
  19. Hi, Been working behind the scenes, mostly in the wife's dining room. Too damn cold in the loft. Been working on the laptop trying to get to grips with the main station building which is proving more of a problem that I first envisaged. I know what I want but it isn't out there. But I'm determined and won't give up. My main problem is what to use as a final finishing on top of the foam board and mounting board, textured Papers or embossed plasticard. Each brings it's own problems. I had thought by way of a change to use textured papers but not having used them as I was never convinced by thier appearance. But hey, I'll get there. Bill.
  20. Hi, With all the ballast now completed, I can now get on with the job of getting it and the track to look right. As with my previous layouts I tend to look at it the way I see it, rather than how it should look. In particular that part of the track which suffers from oil and diesel spillage which I haven't been able to master, but which I am determined to achieve this time. I started by spraying the whole of the track with Humbrol 29 Dark Earth from an aerosol rather than using the airbrush as its much quicker. This was followed by a wash of Sleeper Grime. When dry, a further wash of a mix of Track Colour and Sleeper Grime. A wash of Matt Black was used on the line with diesel spillage. Once I am satisfied with the tone of the colour, I will then proceed to dry brush the track to highlight the detail. Bill.
  21. Hi, Slightly more progress on the layout by way of some airbrushing to the track. Some early weathering has been applied prior to ballasting. I shall be carrying out a fair bit of experimenting with the weathering in due course. I also want to use as little ballast as possible so that it appears to have been down a long time. A planned trip to a nice little cottage in Dornoch for a few days next week will enable me to get to Wick to get some pictures and measurements. That's more progress. Bill.
  22. Hi, I have Photoshopped some images from Streetview and will re-scale them to suit. The station building will be similar to that which exists at Wick and I have been collecting materials to enable me to scratchbuild something similar. I hope to start ballasting shortly as I need to get the point motors fitted soon. Bill.
  23. Hi, Progress has been pretty slow. Have been laying out some foam board to build up the road level which will be finished off with mounting board for the road and platform surface.
  24. Hi, Been some time since I posted pics here and seem to be having bother posting more than one in my post. Can someone point me in the right direction. Has something changed, can't believe I've forgotten!!! Bill.
