  1. Thank you Crompton 33. I have previously looked at the link you provided unfortunately it provided data concerning Maunsell and mk1 coaches but little definitive regards Bullied. But you have helped because I shall try contacting Colin direct.
  2. I am trying to model BR Southern Region, Eastern and central ( Nine Elms & Eastleigh sheds) during the period 1958 -1960. Can anybody confirm that Bullied coaches in Blood and Custard livery were still about in 1960. Despite a lot being repainted green I think some may still have been in use in this livery. I know that due to the BR thirty year rule there were sever shortages of rolling stock on the SR at this time and previously stored stock was brought back into use. I have explored RM web but cannot find a definitive answer but I am relatively new to rm web ( or any forum actually) so apologise if this has been answered before. I do not know if this is even the right forum group. There is a blog from somebody that seems knowledgeable but I cannot find the mechanism to ask the blog writer a question. Any help or advice would appreciated and a definitive answer great. Thank you
  3. Hello David, thank you for your reply and apologies for not replying sooner. Like you the series 3 & 4 from my childhood is not too bad and it is the series 4 that I have bought for extending that, although I have tried to be selective, tends to corrode a little more. The layout is in an insulated but unheated room inside the house. The corrosion is only very minor, not really problematic if I run trains regularly but I want to prevent further degradation. The problem is more prevalent on the steel series 6 points that I use with modern code 100 on a separate part of the layout. These points are used because they will enable running of older and modern stock. I did not try the Deoxit D5 on grounds of cost but after a conversation with John Bristol of Deluxe materials went for Track Majic. I have used on half the layout so far and am not confident about results I am seeing. I have sought advice from Mr Bristow and am awaiting his reply, so?
  4. My two layout are constructed using Triang series 3 and super 4 steel track that for the most part is in super condition and provides few running issues for my very old and new stock. I keep the track, wheels, pickups etc clean using IPA, again ok. However, when I have not used a layout for a little while a little surface corrosion is often found. This is not extensive and easily removed with IPA but it has had me exploring products that I can apply after cleaning to prevent corrosion and maintain conductivity. I have discounted straight WD40 but would be interested if anybody has experience using Deoxit D5 or CRC contact cleaner plus. I understand both contain corrosion inhibitors and the former microscopic gap filling properties. Any comment from first hand experience would be gratefully received.

  7. Hello jack p. i love this model but have had similar problems. Three motors, four decoders and I still have a problem. unfortunately Hornby have fitted a poor motor to this otherwise great loco. There are lots of posts on forums regarding this loco. The general consensus is that the brush material is too soft and breaks down blocking commutators and causing problems as current draw varies one guy measuring a peak of 300ma. If you really like this loco have a look at Barry Davies Railways on u tube who suggests fitting the motor from a Hornby B1 loco. If not, bin it! No point buying a replacement motor as it is probable that it is from the faulty batch. I knew of the problem before I bought my S15 and telephoned Hornby who informed me that they had no traceability but the later models ( mine is!) would be fine. yup, really! Lovely loco but nothing but trouble. Hornby have plenty of stock as do dealers who are heavily discounting. There also loads on EBay so I guess the reputation of this loco is known. I won’t go into Hornby QC. my experience is first hand not hearsay. Good luck.
  8. Hello Tallpaul69. Sorry, so much interest in the decoder it has been passed on. It was brand new, unopened box. Try Hornby spares dept. Suggest you write direct. Although Hornby website says not available I know the service dept often hold back items for warranty claims and the like. I confirm Armands post. R8116 available as after fit. Easy installation
  9. Hello Grande Maurice. I have a s15 TTS chip that is surplus to requirements if you are interested.
  10. Thank you for responding Chris but I think the first paragraph of my original post is self explanatory as to why I do not seek generic help at this time, however well meaning. Again I thank you for your interest.
  11. Has anybody experienced problems with the above combination? i do not wish to enter into a long description of the problems and my experience at this stage and invite well meaning if’s, but’s and maybe solutions; I have been down this route already. Hornby tech support have been fantastic, tirelessly and generously trying to resolve the problems even visiting my home to check my layout but without resolve. The model was replaced by something else from their range which performs ok as do the other five Hornby TTS locos and one Bachmann dcc fitted loco I have. I am about to write this loco off as DC only but before i do thought I would search for anybody that have experienced my very specific search criteria.
  12. Hello Steve, I too have missed the link, and thought the dvd was missing till I read the editors intro. could you mail me the link also please. thank you.
  13. Hello John. I think the bodies, especially on one coach is a little looser than you imagine however, I take your point and will leave well alone until they become problematic. Thank you for your reply
  14. Thank you Mallard. I had thought of widening the middle clips, body to frame with plasticard but thought others might have had a better fix. I shall see if I get any other suggestions. I am surprised others have not had this problem but the coaches although “mint” are probably so dated that there are not many in use although I believe early Bachmann used this same moulding.
  15. I have just sourced a number of these coaches in almost mint condition. I intend to add detail, lights and passengers to the interior. These are the only Bachmann coaches I have and with all, the bodies are loose on the frames. I think this may have been a problem at the time of issue as Bachmann appear to have changed design on newer carriages. I assume others have had this problem, apart from fixing permanently with glue that will then prevent access to inside, have any members come up with a solution. many thanks
