Again you don't need to go anywhere near them. Anyway we are where we are. The shoes fit onto a peg on the brake gear so a spot of superglue (gel is probably better with a little flex to it) should sort it. Might need your glasses on though.

Your right, I shouldn't have had to do anything at all with a new model.

How on earth do you pull the brake shoe off when checking the bogie tower? You don't need to go anywhere near those.

It's a small piece but should glue back on if it's just the glue that's given up, however I have never knocked one off so can't comment on how easy it is to glue back on.

     Dropping the bogies out.

Hi missing step, on the left under buffer looking at the picture. You can see the one on the right side right of the buffer Its in black on this large logo and it would be in red on the other large logo model. Hope this helped Thanks

Are you referring to the Rail Guard? If so it was discussed earlier in the thread,

Received the first of my 4 just now and WOW!!! Absolutely stunning and I can’t really add anymore than what has been added here allready.

Only minor gripe is a guardrail has come adrift and ended up in the foam covering the loco and lost some paint.

And this just goes to show the value of manufacturers interacting on rmweb. Had I not seen this post I would have been returning my second Cavalex 56. Turns out it had this problem on both bogies. Runs like a dream now!

The first return was due to an electrical fault which was just bad luck. This model was its replacement.

    Hi,

What were the symptoms of the electrical fault?

Hi folks, bit of a long shot this. After weeks of running my large logo 56120, I noticed I am missing the front step under the buffer beam. I made a video that I posted on my you tube channel almost as soon as I got the model and I can see it was missing from the start. hoping someone from Cavalex in here could maybe tell me if there's a chance I could get this small part. (and no I don't have a 3d printer)

    Thanks all

Sorry I've no idea what I'm looking for in that picture?

The NCE F2 key is latching, but the other "soft" keys such as bell/whistle/light can be made to be momentary and operate different functions depending upon settings in the options menu of the NCE.

It's the MRC/Gaugemaster Prodigy Advance that has a momentary F2 key that AFAIIA cannot be altered.

Apologies you are correct, I don't pay much attention to the controller market now that I have one. However when I did last look I don't remember the GM kit particularly cheap either considering there may be limitations.

With the moderator's permission, as others have raised DCC systems in recent posts in this thread, and as these locos have functions beyond F28, I wonder if I could ask a question. I use NCE five amp systems and, apart from one upgrade chip, with major developments in locos and decoders in the meantime there really doesn't seem to have been much in terms of development of the controllers in the many years that I've had these. I prefer the NCE systems, but the main limitations for me are recall of only six locos maximum, and no access to anything above F28. Does anyone know of any aftermarket mods or software tweaks, or if NCE is planning any further upgrades ?

Can't speak about the NCE but my Z21 needed a firmware update to support the functions beyond F28. It was a simple firmware update via the Z21 phone app, and fixed it straight away. So it depends how NCE support their products. I was quite surprised to read on this thread actually that the NCE (some/all) only support momentary (push button) action on F2. I'd find that a bit annoying as some functions need to be push button, actually I'm not sure the Z21 remotes support push buttons strangely so I just use the Z21 app with a mobile phone or touch screen chromebook instead.

Bicc factory at Prescot....now thats a model waiting to be built c25s pushing in vans for loading...tight curves...signalbox platforms stick signals....and prototype you can leave all signals clear after 1800 when box gets locked out....

Lots of depot cats at Garston depot....your choice of shift lenght 4 or 14!  One overtime mad driver was called sick lobster 🦞!  Said he needed over time coz his little nippers where sick! As it turned out he divorced his wife years before and his kids where 30+ but he did have a red face!.....ahh the time when micky taking was allowed!

Yes definitely! The factory was almost squeezed into the space right next to the railway line with a very interesting and slightly chaotic looking cable storage / scrap metal yard built on a patchwork of tarmac which went right up to the boundary fence. As a kid I was always fascinated by railway lines running through industrial estates like Kirkby, Trafford Park or Ellesmere port and my favourite model loco was a Triang 'Port Shunter'. My first memory of seeing a loco live and up close was on a visit to my aunties when I was about six, their house backed onto Golborne sidings and I remember going into the back garden and the sky was filled with a filthy BR Blue class 40 messing about with some freight wagons, been hooked ever since.

The workers at the Prescot Rolling mill were doing that much overtime that they were on more money than the factory manager and after they cut overtime and subsequently asked them to go back to it a while later they couldn't get them to go back onto overtime as they'd become used to doing 'school hours'! I haven't been back to Prescot for many years but am due to go to the Shakespeare theatre next week, I believe the town, or cable town as it was know, is unrecognisable from the BICC days so it should be quite interesting.

hiya just a quarry,  the dc rail 56,  they don't have the cab aerials?

The 56 looks miles better without without the aerials, it really spoils the lines of the loco and I hate them. I have 093 and 120 and whilst 093 does not have the aerials which is great, 120 does and I was a little disappointed about it given that the original artwork never showed them and there are lots of pictures of the prototype without them.

Assuming the Dapol 8 function has the right type of functions (logic vs full power) then I think you'll only really lose out on the cab lights.

Or the fans, depending on what your priority is.

    Depot cat/cats!

Allerton depot had a few nasty depot cats use to sneak up on you in mess room and give you a walk on back of head if didn’t share butties! Can't say ever saw a rat though...

Pussy going to have a oily bum.

I use to work for BICC and all the factories at Prescot, Melling, Helsby, Wrexham and Leigh etc. seemed to have a 'Factory cat' or cats. Some of the blokes I worked with used to hammer the overtime and always seemed to be at the factory, they too would inevitably be referred to as the factory cat!

I have installed a Bachmann 36-557 decoder. This gives directional head lights, front and rear marker lights at both ends independently controlled plus      fans, without any programming, but both sets of dip switches have to be set to “DC Operation with Blanking Plate” otherwise no lights or fans.

    Andy

That's one of the decoders I'd be considering with it having 10 outputs.

  13. I've been trying drawing packages but to be honest I'm struggling a bit, some awful interfaces out there. Just the basics of setting up the layout size, which should be straight forward and on page 1 of the manual, I think I found it buried on about page 30 of manual!  I've tried 3DPlanIT, SCARM, XtrkCAD and AnyRail and at the moment AnyRail is probably coming out on top but probably because it includes the Peco Streamline library and allows you to bend the flex track.

    Any views? Thanks

This is what I was questioning a little earlier in the thread. I have a Hattons decoder taken from my factory fitted dcc fitted class 66 which I believe is 6 function. I only have working headlight and marker lights which is presumably 3 functions so if there's a way to assign the remaining 3 to tail lights and fan that would be ideal but I'm unsure if/how to do this.

    I think you'll need 10 outputs. Originally I thought it was 8 but forgot about the fans (2off). So the outputs would be 1 x Tail lights, 1 X Front lights, 1 X Head Light, 1 Cab Light - for each end. So that's 8 + 2 = 10.

I'm assuming all lights are independent given the switching options. I.e. Not on the same White / Yellow circuits.

    I don't have a programmer I'm afraid.

Hopefully the programmed decoders will become available from suppliers or direct.

I do wonder whether DCC has now reached the stage of becoming a barrier rather than an advantage :(

Surely you can change the CV values from your controller and would have used that to change loco addresses? Once you have the list of values, its reasonably straight forward. The last time I did was for a Dapol O gauge 121 and they included the settings in the manual.

Bachmann includes the catalogue reference in the description of model specific parts, so you can check before buying. At present the spares from the latest version of the Class 47 seem to have sold out, but they will probably be available again once Bachmann produces another batch.

Sorry where is that? I've checked my documentation, the available manuals on the website and the website spare parts section Class 47 2022.

To those commenting, it's your responsibility to inform the retailer if your card has changed since pre-ordering.  Not the other way around

    Take some responsibility.

You quoting terms and conditions or just offering opinion?

Its not listed as a part on the Bachmann spares site, so I am guessing for the moment at least any spares they have are being kept for warranty work.  Shame as for this (and for the 37) it would be nice to be able to buy it as an upgrade.   Maybe another enterprising third party will produce a retrofit kit

I might contact them and ask the question, SFX was out of my budget at the time. I picked up two Bachy 37 SFXs for a good price and recently two Cavalex 56s and all have working fans, love them! So the Bachy 47 is looking a bit out of place at the moment.

Thanks for your very speedy reply! Rails were not very helpful at all this week. I felt like I’d been told off by the Headmistress in one of their emails!  I was a bit peeved to say the least, as had preordered a sound fitted model two and a half years ago, but my credit card had changed in that time and in the week that they took to contact me after the 56’s were released, they had kindly sold my sound fitted version to someone else and are now showing they’ve sold out! I’ll order the Class 60 elsewhere! 😆

I pre-ordered mine about the same time and I'd be absolutely gutted if I missed out after waiting two and a half years. What I didn't like about pre-ordering with Rails was the lack of communication when pre-orders are arriving / arrived. I waited two years for the Bachy 47 and then one day I just had an email to say that payment had been taken and it was on its way, luckily I was in that day and my card hadn't changed which is a good possibly after two years. My experience with other retailers is that they give you a courtesy call to confirm the details and then to sort out payment and delivery. I know some retailers complain about being messed about with pre-orders but I thought Rails took a deposit? Do you lose the deposit if they cannot supply what you've pre-ordered and decline their 'alternative'?
