  1. Not tried the Wills plastic but mine can cut 2mm ABS plastic. After seeing how Richard from Everard Junction did his paving slabs on the Cricut I thought I'd give it a go with plasticard. Didn't turn out well using the deep point blade but when using the knife blade on the medium chipboard (1.5mm) it made beautiful work of cutting 2mm plasticard. Few tips. you can't create custom materials for the knife blade. I used the medium chip board 1.5mm which uses the knife blade but it's passes are set to x12 I found after 7 or no more than 8 passes, the cutting was done and you could pry them out easily. Any more and it slightly marked the mat.
  2. Yeah I just went for it and fitted the two together and nipped the Bullhead end, all good, nice and easy. All the code 75 (and about 40% of the bullhead) are hidden under the "town" section so nothing visible. Thanks for the replies. :)
  3. Hi everyone. Quick question... I'm running out of Bullhead track but have some streamline wooden sleeper code 75 left over in the stash. Wanting to check if I can join the two with no problems without having to buy more bullhead. Although it will not look great, the section of track I have to finish is hidden from view so scenically, only the last length of bullhead I have will be visible. Thanks Mike
  4. Has anything yet come along that's up to the quality of the Traintronics brass etched signal gantries? Shame their design wasn't sold on. The ones I've seen on youtube layouts just look so good. With the hobby exploding you'd think someone would see a good opportunity to cover a fine detail signal gantry.
  5. Great to see the latest update video Richard. Love the effect of those tiles as platform edging. What did you use for them?
  6. Brilliant. Thanks Philip. I've just ordered the license key and a couple of custom files! Look forward to having a good play. Waaaay, down the line when I get the laptop that will be stationary in the shed sorted I'll give you a shout for help with the transfer!
  7. Really good to hear this is still going ahead. Hawkesy, I want to purchase a license but ultimately, the pc I have the software on now is not the one that will be used in my shed layout as I plan to have an old laptop specifically left in there, Will I be able to reinstall and use the license on the laptop that will be in the layout at a later date? Basically is it a multiuse (personal use obviously) or one time code? Thanks for your help Mike
  8. Hi everyone. I've found a model railway gradient calculator - https://www.modelbuildings.org/track-grade-calculator/ to use for my car port / garage layout. I'll have two slopes. The first is on layout level rising 90mm to an upper level and I'm going to have that at about 2-3% to keep it realistic - no problem. My second gradient (and the one I want to ask the question about) will take the take down to my fiddle yard which I want underneath the main layout to give me more layout space on top. What is the absolute max percentage of gradient locos can get away with? This doesn't mean I'll go to the max but I'll have an idea for where to stop!! The slope to the fiddle yard will be underneath the "upper level" so out of sight. I'm going to use DCC, mainly newer locos. Rakes will generally consist of no more than 6 or 7 coaches for passenger trains and I don't have a large quantity of rolling stock (yet) so no huge rakes of wagons. I'll also make use of the DC Concepts Powerbase to help with things. The more grade I can get away with, the lower I can get the fiddle yard down and have more space to get at things. Hope anyone can pass on their advice. Mike
  9. Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I'll look more towards the smaller suppliers and see what I can find. Harburn's you put the link to look great! They automatically take the VAT off (which is like getting blood from a stone with some bigger suppliers!) and their international delivery charges are reasonable!
  10. Hi everyone. Seems I've not picked the best time to start a layout! I'm from the UK but working and living in Cyprus (which has no model railway shops and only one semi decent craft shop in Nicosia!) and after brexit, I now have added Cypriot VAT and import duties on any items over £130 from the UK. Some companies are removing VAT UK side... but not all. I'd thought my best bet was having purchases sent to family in the UK then bring them out with me on trips back and forth but with the ongoing Covid problems (Cyprus not doing very well with cases and vaccinations) I'm really not sure when travel back and forth will be viable. I've just finished converting the carport into a "big shed" and I'm on with building baseboards, got an ECoS Command Station on route from Germany (lot cheaper with no added duties) but I'm really struggling now with track! I wanted to go code 75 bullhead and concrete. On reflection I'm going to forget bullhead but still want a mix of Wooden and Concrete lines. I've a couple of boxes of wooden straights on there way to me but points... supplies seem really low from everywhere in the UK. From someone new whose only just getting started I've a couple of questions - are Peco in full production? Are these low supplies normal or is this only temporary? If it's long term, I wonder if it's better to drop 75 and go code 100 before I get too far in? (not that there seems that much more stock but does seem a little more promising) Naturally before starting on the car port conversion I went crazy buying locos (I'm not allowed near ebay anymore) so I don't want it to be months before laying track and seeing them run! Great to have found this forum for advice, tips and inspiration! Hope anyone can help.
  11. Bringing this one back for an update. Does anyone have any news if 2021 will see a third series.... or has it officially hit the end of the rails?
  12. Love this concept. Good work Quick question, if I purchase a code now, will it include the upgrade to 70's 80's? Just wondering if I need to hand on and wait for that release.
