  1. Hello, not sure if anyone else has had this issue. I have been using Humbrol BR blue to spray some locos (I’ve already applied acryllic base coat) the paint however has come out patchy and black. I have applied 4 coats, prepped the paint, etc. Have binned the Humbrol and now about to use Railmatch acryllic. Has anyone else had issues with this paint? cheers ( I’ve used Humbrol oils for 50 years and their other acryllic paints are fine). cmCgris

    Warwell wheels

Hello, wondering if anyone has any spare disc wheels for an Oxford Warwell (perhaps left overs from an EM conversion). cheers Chris

    Brean

Brean is based on Rodney Hall’s Llanastr, a layout I saw back in 1985 in The Model Railway Journal. I have modelled BR blue since 1979 and my first layout was based around Ian Futer’s original Lochside. A change in use of rooms saw my downstairs US muse packed away but I was a new room with an 8 foot run. I prefer small layouts. A quick acquisition of some IKEA floating shelves and a visit to the school skip sorted out the timber. Brean was born. The conceit is simple; trains from the Mainline arrive in the well known holiday resort of Brean. However the line is the junction for a thriving deep water port and all manner of trains I saw during my halcyon spotting days 1978 to 81 can be seen.

    Westavon

This is my 7mm shelf micro layout. My dad was a Great Western scratch builder with a garden line. He died last year and my brother and I dissembled the garden line which had been a feature of our lives. I wanted to model the branch line scene so we spilt the locos accordingly. I had a loft line but have found the railway gets used if it is downstairs. A coincidental upgrade of my sons playroom to a games room saw the closure of my US micro layout on top of an Ikea unit and I was offered another room for hobby use. Hurrah! I had already built a 4mm micro BR blue line on one dude if the room. space was very limited, 8 foot in total. Whilst the run round accommodates a lock upto the size of a 42/52xx, other bigger locos exist. The boards sit on IKEA floating shelves. I have deliberately kept the fiddle yard capacity small and tend to operate in real time. Shunting the (very small) yard can be a protracted affair, normally accompanied by a cup of tea. My dad drove Hall locomotives in the Snow Hill area in the 50’s because he knew lots of drivers. Therefore despite the branch line location, it is not unknown for the odd 4-6-0 to appear on a running in turn post works!
  6. I bought some replacement needles (0.2, 0.3 and 0.5) and some of the small nozzles from e bay, 7 piece airbrush kit, seller discountmart18, work fine
  7. Rewired my old Lima 33 fitting extra contacts to trailing bogey and connecting these back to opposite sides of motor. Question; motor runs when trailing bogey on track but as soon as I put the motor bogey wheel on the rails it all stops. I guess it’s wiring somewhere. Does anyone have any ideas? I’ve swapped the wires over to no avail.
  8. Many thanks for your reply, have a great Christmas!
  9. Rob, excellent topic, I have a few of these and am very fond of them. Thanks for the inspiration. Did you replace the marker lights on the cab ends? Wondered if you fitted a ready made item or made your own? Happy Christmas!
  10. Hello, I am building a single point layout but cannot get the smp point to work. I have put feeds at the toes and added a micro switch linked to the 2 stock rails and the vee. However I get a power cut out when I switch the point one way but not the other. I have cut the connector wire to ensure a gap but still get a short. Dc operation. Wondered if any of you esteemed people have any suggestions?
  11. Many thanks! I aim to be seen with a soldering iron later adding pickups. I converted these 3 into 50’s but because of their poor adhesion never used them. Will report back, thankyou all for your advice!
  12. Thanks for your help guys. I’ve changed the tyres on one of the locos but it’s still pretty weak. Think there’s also a problem with trailing bogies being too light; now weighted. I’ll try the rest tomorrow. Compared to my other Lima locos these 3 are very disappointing, no issues at all elsewhere with the 31’s/33’s/47’s.
  13. Hello, I have various working Lima loco abs dmus but 3 class 37 chassis I bought back in the say can’t pull a train. Motors works loco crawls couple up a train and it wheel spins and not makes no progress. Finally looking at these after over 20 years, not previously run. Have added weight, cleaned and oiled. Extra pick ups next. Has anyone dealt with this issue before?
  14. Hello, I’ve been using my current layout on and off quite some years (37 to be precise). The track is all SMP and has never been an issue. However, One of the points has just developed a short when switched in one direction but not the other. I’ve checked for debris, checked the soldering but all appears good. Does anyone have any ideas. I’m trying to avoid lifting the point because they’re all getting a bit old! thanks in advance!
  15. Hello Cloggydog sorry for the delay in replying. I would appreciate you having a look re the transfers, many thanks, Chris
  16. Hya, has anyone out there got any spare transfers for a Br Brahe tenser please? Many thanks Chris
  17. hya does anyone know the working timetable train code for this train, often hauled by 2 25's but I saw the odd 40 in charge? Ican't find it on the Wtt for 1980/81! Many thanks!!
  18. Hello, One of my my Bachman 08's suffered a slow speed collision whilst I was testing it on my original layout (33 years old, but clearly issues with platform overhang clearances!). The rivet popped out on one of the front cranks. I got it back on but the engine clunked around the layout before I removed the rivet. Am now unable to relocate said rivet in coupling rod. Is this a scrapper for re sale as spare parts ( I hope not), beyond economic repair or is their a fix for this?! Thanks in advance!!
  19. Excellent work! I grew up in the late 60's/70's near Weston in a railway family who are all enthusiasts. Great memories of BR blue which I have modelled since 1980. I remember the Hydraulics On the Weston branch and spotting over the fields and Uphill junction. Would be interested to know as well what coach you used for the tonnes inspection vehicle as this and the Chipmans weedkiller train are a couple of my yet to tackle projects!
  20. Excellent thread, just discovered it. I've been modelling the Bristol-Weston area since 1979 and these threads have put a lot of stuff into context. Many thanks, really enjoyed the piccies.
  21. 4mm 80's micro l/o complete as much as they ever are, single track, about to receive 30 years worth of rolling stock, operating boredom just around the corner!!!!

  22. Hello, I wondered if anyone out there can help. I have a number of the old airfix tank wagons and want to model the version with a slightly longer barrel. Does anybody have the dimensions for this or has anyone done this work previosuly; I think they were class b tanks, many thanks and happy modelling all
