Recall being hauled by 66101 from Manningtree to Ipswich in spring 2001. The Anglia 86 (can't recall which one) had been limping from Chelmsford, and had a fitter riding shotgun from Liverpool Street, but had finally expired at Manningtree. The way the fitter ambled down the platform to speak to the driver told me we weren't moving anytime soon! They tried to get the resident RES 47 Thunderbird up from Colchester, but there were too many trains backed up, so it was easier to send an EWS 66 that was lurking around Ipswich to drag us to Ipswich where the service was terminated.
