  7. Just an update on the class 165/0 conversions. Photos are attached of 165004 2 car in NSE livery arriving at Silverbury, the club layout of South West Herts MRS. Visible are the hopper windows made from decals and just visible is the tripcock beam. The destination blind reads 'Silverbury'. The 165/0 is in the company of a Railtrack 121 and a Chiltern 168 unit. The layout is available for exhibition bookings - contact me for details. Also included is a photo of the 165/0 2 car in Chiltern Railways (post 2003) livery with the roof modified after conversion to air conditioning. This has now been progressed with the chassis and lighting installed and is having decals added.

  13. Matt I have converted a Bachmann class 166 in NSE livery to a NSE Chiltern lines NSE livery class 165. This required creating transfers for the hopper windows and the additional window in the standard class saloon. My club (SWHMRS) has a modern image Chiltern lines layout and I am now researching converting the Bachmann units to make a 2 car and a 3 car Chiltern Railways unit. This will need modification of window arrangements from the base Bachmann class 166. Is this the sort of thing you plan to do? Would you like a photo of the NSE 165? Cheers Tug60069
  14. As the originator of this thread I guess I should provide an update. Having established that the Foxfield Bagnall is much smaller than the Hornby Bagnall I looked at the various images of larger Bagnall products and decided that a hybrid of a cut down Hornby model on a Hornby Sentinel DM chassis might work. Then I got side tracked onto a Ruston 48DS... See below I'll start a separate post on this under 'Small shunters' Meanwhile here's how the modified Sentinel chassis turned out. Much of the blue moulding of the cab floor was cut away to footplate level The Bagnall cab and bonnet were reduced in height and checked on the chassis. The bonnet also had to be shortened and rebuilt with a taper towards the top. The radiator end still needs cutting down to the profile of the bonnet in these photos which show the cab and bonnet loosely in place. I think it's starting to look convincing. At my rate of modelling it should be ready for Christmas!
  15. A big thank you to all the exhibitors, traders, members and visiting helpers that made the exhibition a success. Thanks also to the modellers and public who attended - we received many positive comments. The exhibition aims to ensure that a number of the layouts have been covered in the national magazines and this year was no different, so we hope visitors enjoyed seeing 'in the flesh' some of the layouts that they have seen on paper.
