About Me

I'm a rail/railmodeling enthusiast working in the aviation industry. I'm quite new (returning) to model railways, having had my interest rekindled over the last couple of years... after an absence (focusing on other things such as Aviation, art and life in general) of about 30 years. My age is now ...er, the same as my shoe size (now which do I act?)

I'm happily married with two boys (age 10 & 8 ), both who are showing a very healthy interest in model railways having been subjected to a few modelrail shows and the working of "Grandad's" layout. My wife seems to happily tolerate this.

I've built them a 8'x4' trainset (not yet a layout), with a small double loop and sidings for them to exercise their locos and stock (DC OO), with an elevated section to which the scenary is slowly being added. I'm constantly planning (planning not building!) a depot or simple diorma layout for myself (see blog). Now living in Mid Sussex, with the London-Brighton main line at the end of our road; 5 minutes walk from our local station and 20 minutes drive from the Bluebell railway, where I try to help the artist in residence with a few bits of artwork.

I've previously been a supporter of two of Mr Bulleid's fine pacifics... 34081 "92 Squadron"... and 35028 Clan Line. My father and grandfather were part of the original gang that bought Clan Line from BR in '67... so I've been doing my bit to maintain the family link. Long may they both remain actively funded.

Whilst I love Bulleids, I really have to defer back to the traction that was around in my younger days, in the 1970s, when our route into London would be through Kings Cross - and for that, the star was always the Deltics, especially the racehorses. I love to see (and hear) Twin-Napiered Deltics, especially on the main line... and some recent experiences in this have been very enjoyable.
