Andy Y
A note from Iain Rice with respect to : Bob Barlow’s Greystar Publications. Many of you will have heard the sad news of Bob Barlow’s sudden illness and subsequent death and will be wondering what is to become of the two quarterly magazines published under his newly-formed ‘Greystar’ imprint. The situation with the two titles is slightly different. Narrow Gauge and Industrial Modelling Review, which Bob took over from Roy Link in March 2012, has reverted to Roy’s control and will continue to be published in the same format, although the administrative arrangements will obviously change. But existing subscriptions will hold and there is no need for subscribers to do anything – apart from anyone who has not yet received issue 102, who should get in touch a.s.a.p. The RCL Publications books previously handled by Greystar will also be available through Roy. The new contact details are: Narrow Gauge & Industrial, Cambrian Forge, Garndolbenmaen, Gwynedd LL51 9RX. Tel: 01766 530784 (10am to 5pm only please). Email: review@bagnall284.plus.comWhile NG & I was an existing publication, the Finescale Railway Modelling Review was an all-new title launched in September 2014. This means that it has not yet become established enough to survive without Bob’s input. With great reluctance, the decision has been made by Bob’s family to cease publication, so issue 3 will be the last. Although Roy Link was responsible for the design and layout and Tim Shackleton for a measure of editorial input, the Greystar operation was essentially Bob’s baby, which he ran on what was effectively a ‘sole trader’ basis. This, unfortunately, means that Greystar as a financial entity forms part of Bob’s estate and so is subject to probate. Until this is granted, the affairs of Greystar – including banking, stock and some data access – are frozen. All unconfirmed subscriptions and orders accompanied by cheques have been returned and payments made though PayPal refunded under the terms of PayPal’s operating rules. Further refunds will, regrettably, be dependent on probate, so may take some little while to process. Copies of the three published editions will be made available in due course once matters have been settled and while stocks last. Look out for details on-line and in the specialist press.Thank you to everyone who has sent messages of sympathy and support. Bob’s legacy will be the many contributions he made to the hobby as craftsman, author and editor, which we will happily still be able to enjoy and appreciate over the years to come.Iain RiceOn behalf of Rowena Barlow
RMweb Premium DLT Posted June 24, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 24, 2015 Thanks Andy, that clears the situation up. We should emphasise that Roy Link is ONLY dealing with NG&I and RCL Publications, and cannot answer Greystar or FRMR queries. Dave.T
jc2001
I understand that many of the subscriptions to both Finescale Review and NG&IRM Review have been set up in PayPal as recurring payments and, despite them being formally notified of Bob's death (twice), the payments are still automatically being taken. The best way to solve this is to log in and cancel using the following instructions (borrowed from another forum). If you log into Paypal, look for pre-approved payments.I find it easier to navigate using the "classic site," and you'll find pre-approved payments (and for some reason Paypal seems to create a pre-approved permanent payment for all subscriptions,) under "Profile," and then under "My Money. " From there, you can see what has been set up, and cancel any you don't want. Please spread the word.John

jc2001
I'm glad it helped. I am helping Roy with the admin for NG&I Review so am aware that there are still many that have active payments which we or Bobs widow can do nothing about. So please everyone spread the word - to cancel any pre-authorised PayPal payment to Greystar NG&I subscription renewal will be available from narrowgaugeandindustrial.co.uk sometime soon John
RMweb Gold Dan Randall Posted August 26, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 26, 2015 Thank you John - just cancelled my subscription too. Regards Dan
flyingsignalman
I've looked at the PayPal site and I can't see how to cancel a pre approved payment. Edit I've managed to figure it out! I clicked on Greystar Publications and saw a small cancel button. It wasn't exactly spelt out that was the one to click to cancel the subscription! Arthur
Took a bit of finding. I couldn't find any way of doing it via the apple PayPal app so went into the main site. Click Settings, then Pre Approved Payments (under Payment Settings) and you'll find it, any any others you have, there. Click on Greystar, and you'll find cancel just under the Payee details top left. I did note that my Narrow Gauge Review sub had already been cancelled, not by me, and I'll have to resurrect that one. Edit; re the Narrow Gauge Review, I'm not sure that subs are still being taken by PayPal, I know that was a Bob Barlow/Greystar innovation so I'll have to look into that one. Hi Arthur, Existing Review subscriptions paid via Greystar are fine, and you will get a normal renewal letter when your subscription is due. I had mine with 103. Roy doesn't have an up to date website yet, the NG&I advert on the back page says "website in preparation". Hope this helps, Cheers, Dave.
SR DUNCAN
I have now had an e-mail saying, (You successfully cancelled the following recurring payment. PayPal will no longer bill you. If you did not request this cancellation, contact PayPal Customer Service freephone on 1-888-221-1161. Note: Cancelling this payment with PayPal may not relieve you of the obligation to complete your contract with your merchant. You should notify your merchant directly about cancelling this payment.) It would be good to look out for it. Duncan
RMweb Premium petethemole Posted August 27, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 27, 2015 Thanks, now done. I also found I had two separate accounts with AVG, both for computers now moribund, and cancelled both. If I revive either after the current sub expires I can put them on my MacAfee account. davknigh
My NG&I subscription expires with 103 too so I e-mailed Roy to ask about the use of PayPal and he sent me a link http://narrowgaugeandindustrial.co.uk/passwordwhere you can leave an e-mail address and you will be contacted when the NG&I system is ready to accept payments. Dave/All You DO have to worry about it if you still have an active PayPal pre-authorised payment to Graystar. THIS MUST BE CANCELLED. The new website will have subscription renewal and probably will take payment via PayPal but not as a recurring pre-authorised payment. John
RMweb Premium skipepsi Posted November 29, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 29, 2015 Just cancelled my payment following the path suggested. A bump to jog anyone else who hasn't cancelled their paypal payment.
jc2001
And for those who don't know it yet NG&I Review is alive and well and subscriptions and back issues can be ordered online from: http://narrowgaugeandindustrial.co.uk/ You will need to create an account to order (so we know where we send the mag to). Finescale Review unfortunately is no more. John
Andy Y
To readers of Greystar Publications You have probably heard that Greystar Publications – publisher of Narrow Gauge and Industrial Railway Modelling Review and Finescale Railway Modelling Review – has ceased operation following the tragic death of Robert Barlow, the editor, publisher and owner. We are aware that some readers have not received magazines for which they have subscribed or ordered and may like a refund. With apologies for the delay caused by the complications of probate, we are now preparing reimbursements, subject to the availability of funds. Claims may only be made for a refund of payment relating to Finescale Review. Publication of Narrow Gauge & Industrial continues uninterrupted in the hands of Roy C Link (RCL Publications http://narrowgaugeandindustrial.co.uk),its original owner. Please let us have details of your claim by 28 February 2016. These must be made in writing by post to the address above giving your name, postal address, email address, and evidence of the sum claimed including your Greystar customer number if you have one. Refunds will be made by BACS; for this purpose please supply a bank sort code and account number and name. All refunds will be made in UK pounds sterling. Overseas customers need to supply an IBAN or other appropriate international bank code. You may prefer your subscription to be paid to charity. Our chosen beneficiary is Macmillan Nurses who supported Robert and his family during his illness. Please state if this is your wish. Thank you. clarkea1
Thanks for the info Andy - I had hoped it would be possible to donate the remainder of my subs but didn't want to unduly bother Bob's family over a small amount. I am glad they are now accepting donations in this way - hopefully my few pounds can do some good against this most awful of diseases.
