Popular Post KNP Posted July 1, 2019 Author Popular Post Share Posted July 1, 2019 (edited) Whilst setting up yesterdays photo's of the King and his coach pulling into Encombe Town I stood the camera on the track by the occupational bridge. Going through the pictures, as I mentioned I tend to take dozens and then cherry pick I came across this which must have happened when I set the camera off when standing on the track. Never taken a picture from this angle before and for an accidental one I thought it looked quite good, so here it is. I then decided to take one resting the camera on the back scene to compliment the above one. There is a bridleway that runs across the bridge and disappears into the back scene between the gap in the two trees, then teeing off there is a small footpath that wanders through the group of trees to the crossing. This then goes across the track down behind the pig sty, along the side and through the farm yard. It's all there you just don't see it because of the scenery.... Because I deliberately over specified the lighting levels I now get, for want of a better word, light splashback, that is now illuminating the reverse side of the layout where these areas are no longer in shadow. Even the cab of the auto coach has enough light entering to see the cab interior plus the side windows are reflecting the scenery in them. Do not hesitate, time to get LED lighting... You used two didn't you, Daylight and Warm Daylight - is that right? What lumens are they and what manufacturer? I presume the LED runs are stuck on the layout-facing side of battens above the viewing area? Is it possible to let us see a photo if the LED strips in position? Thanks very much. Martin Information requested. LED tape obtained from e-bay. Superbright 5630 5730 LED Strip Lights Waterproof IP65 240leds/m 220V+EU/UK Plug One was white and the other warm white, both fitted with dimmers. I went for waterproof not because I needed them to be waterproof but to protect the lights from incidental damage and when bending around comers. Cost £22 (free p&p) for a 6m length, just checked and still available. led chips (or SMD's - surface mounted diodes) are type 5630. These give out more light than the common ones used - normally 5050. I don't have the exact level of lumens for these lights but I did find that 60No. 5630leds p/m produce 2700 so you can see a strip of 240 leds p/m will product considerably more. An aluminum heatsink, backing or PCB is recommend if they are used regularly used for more than 8hrs per day, I don't so will monitor to see if I get any degradation in lighting levels. General views How I dealt with corners Control end, was meant to be temporary but it works, looks OK, not in the way so it can stay.... Both lights are wired to the junction box on the pelmet upright then run to a splitter under the layout (on the far wall) where I ran the live wire to light switch on the control panel. So now even that switches on both lights....! Close up EDIT Forgot to say that the lights where turned to the lowest settings so they didn't dazzle the iPhone. So the King and his coach did not fall of the end of the world the other day after going through the black hole. An urgent call has been received at his office so Ken dashed down to Little Muddle station because low and behold the King had returned. Sitting, quietly, almost serenely one would say, was 6029 with the other Collett coach. Not a place for it to be normally seen, no wonder Mr Porter is checking his watch and timetable to say well nothing is mentioned on here so where did it come from, now what do I do with them??? Mr A Bennett I believe, replied that he saw a large hairy arm carrying a loco, then a coach descend and 'plonk' - his words, them on the track. Mr Masters, for ever the realist, said well this must be good for tourism so I will put the kettle on and break out the bourbons....!
