Steve,

I'm on 'speed ballasting now....  A large syringe, PVA and washer fluid....

I'm also collecting any stone dust etc that I see around...  I'll probably get reported to the police as some kind of crank...

Using Acrylic paint I filled and coloured the missing timbers.

At the same time I used the same colour to paint the rail side and chairs. I then added some ballast.

This is stage 1 of the ballasting. Before bed I will get out the wetting spray and get these 2 beds glued.

Armed with the iPhone as my “third eye” I set to with another fettle.

I checked the track I’d touched up the rail earlier. Doesn’t look too bad. The sleepers and rail will need additional touching up and weathering.

Quite pleased with the effects.

Damn. Missed some bits down the sides of the chairs.   .......and some of the rail....

Last weekend I had a go at building a wall from layers of card and prototype brick sheet. The card just wanted to warp. Plus I used watercolour to cover the cut edges and it looked crap.

So I’m sticking the first layer (this will be visible in the panels) directly to the ply at the rear.

I will then make up the next layers from various layers of card that will be wrapped in the prototype self adhesive brick paper. That should eliminate the raw edge dilemma.

The additions will be glued to the previous layers with PVA.

Here is the first layer up, with poor old Fred still moving ballast...

The working turnout on the main board has received some attention.

I cut off the Peco extras. Then added some coffee stirrer infills. I also trimmed the point blades with a pair of side cutters.

So next some painting and ballast.

O gauge is so much easier. I have sufficient turnouts.

I have been thinking of gauge widening a code 100 OO to O. Then ballasting over the sleepers for a factory model.

Today involved working with real trains, so spent most time thinking about rather than actual modelling.  As the site I've chosen to model is a little sparse on details I need to maximise on extra details.

One topic is the numerous warning signs found on the lineside.  Now here's the thing, do I use exact copies or something that's a bit more of a characature...

Here is Fred, still fettling up the walkways...  In the background are two versions of the typical Southern enamelled conductor rail waning signs.

On the left is a scaled down picture of a 'Railway Executive' version.  The white is not too white.    On the right is a made up printed version.  Both versions are still too big, I think half the size of the version on the right.

Any comments and or suggestions would be appreciated..

Thanks to Paul Wade for the prototype photo.

The skirt at the bottom of the wall is 2 layers thick.  I use the 45 degree chamfers left by the picture framer to form the shaped top.

The brick paper was stuck to the back first then folded over.

It is then glued between the 2 uprights. It will get pinned and glued to the main wall tomorrow.

the folds could be a bit sharper though.

Busy in the garden today. But found some stops. The P Way had to dig out some ballast and hotch a sleeper along a bit. But the stops are in.

They are a Peco set with the back legs removed. It maximises the shunt neck.

After tea I will move the sleeper along and ballast.  When it’s all dry I will up end the board and “red and white” the beam.
