Post 1 of 2: It would seem I missed Christmas completely on here. To fit pictures in this will have to be a double post

First of all Plumtree works went into Christmas shutdown mode , just like the real works all steel was sent off to its customers, and the works trains and maintenance teams stood talking , I mean got to work!

Rail tours on both the narrow gauge and mainline were operated. And then slowly all the locos returned to sheds for the Christmas break.

Post 2 of 2: It would seem I missed Christmas completely on here. To fit pictures in this will have to be a double post

So after Christmas and things appear

First of all the layout was trialled on dcc. Something we have been planning for a long time .

All went well. While normal operation for the future will be DC it gas proven that the layout is dcc compatible.  The only current chipped loco I own is dave rustons wasp striped janus.

Next , a gift from my partner.  A 3rd tram.  These will be a lot of use on a future layout , but while they look a little out of place on Plumtree works , many ex mainline locos worked on the works. So at home it's fine.

And finally. More modern road vehicles in for some weathering.

Another loco joins the fleet. Hornbys latest sentinel 0-6-0 stanton in Standard sentinel green.

As far as I know was its ironworks guise and later repainted yellow for ncb. Which makes me wonder why Hornby called it an ncb loco livery.

The 6 wheeled sentinel is a brilliant model non the less and fits right in with the fleet

I finally got to re rigging the Lighting inside the Plumtree works mill building B.

Building A was rigged correctly from the start but building B had lights all weaved in the rafters, these have now been positioned above and below the raised walkways, inside the control room and under the soaking pit giving the glowing orange light.

Now just the rest of the lighting to do...

bits going on all over the layout,

first of all paving slabs have gone down in various areas.

the water tank has moved to the control roof, with walkways added, and one of 3 cats now on the layout,

the volvo A40d has been weathered

and trails for point leavers are going in

Its taken a few days. But the rolling mill finally has a large gas main !

Really glad i did this. I feel it splits the buildings height somehow.

The pipe , flanges, valves and connectors are all from Goodwood Scenics Ltd.

The brackets are all made out of 3.5mm x 3.5mm H section following the idea from the industrial model railways book.

Thanks to a good friend, I've acquired yet another steelworks loco in the 80s to 00s period. This is a thomas hill 4wdh steelman.

It's been built exceptionally well, just requiring some plates and glazing plus a crew.

Here we can see the steelworks owner and department manager inspecting the locomotive

Hi Andrew,

That is a superbly built model and will look nice potting around your works!  I continue to debate whether to repaint the sides of my N Gauge Society Hunslet 0-6-0 diesel shunters into a white panel with the BSC blue stripes.  Nerve does not kick in and I sway away from it!  But I do continue to think about it, just feel it would finish things off somehow.

Keep up the good work!

Rich

Thanks rich. Simon did an excellent job. He only parted with it as hes moving to mainline models for now .

I can understand what you mean with the white cab and stripes.  I was glad to have it join the janus fleet.

I'm not sure however if the hunslets ever carried the white cab blue stripe livery. Scunthorpes loco 58 went from the origional yellow into the silver cab it carries today. So there's something to be said for the yellow. But the white cab is always nice

Excuse the dead workers on the building roof in the photo below

Time for another update

This time a few more wagons, and a mainline locomotive

first ive aqcuired some of the accurascale coil A wagons in some of the last livery they wore, although they never ran in scunthorpe i just cant resist a steel wagon

and second is a class 15,

D8208 was one of the first 10 class 15s built ar yorkshire engineering company, the birth place of the janus.

Most class 15s spent their lives in Stratford and Ipswich. However D8208 spent around a year in immingham! A perfect location for running short freights to the steelworks. A second later model of the class 15 worked out its last years at immingham. The only 2 15s to work in the area.

Some more new wagons join the layout courtesy of Anoraks Anonymous and Hattons Model Railways

First off is the poa scrap pair I acquired at AA

And secondly. 2 BOC liquid oxygen tanker wagons which did supposedly run to the Scunthorpe area occasionally.

Christmas is afoot, and Plumtree works got a Christmas tree!

Also , after fitting transfers to my planet industrial s victory, ive

weathered it...

I seem to have good day and bad days with weathering. This one definitely feels like a bad day. Annoying as its one of my most favorite recent locos.

For some reason the Matt wash appears to have gone glossy. Something I've never had it do before. And the powders, used as I normally do with a small amount of water and a medium for a wet effect don't seem to to have gone well.

What do you all think of it? Maybe I'm being to hard on myself? please reply with what you think.

I may have to send it away to be weathered over.

It's not good. Buy yourself a copy of The Art of Weathering, by Martyn Welch. If you want to do weathering, it'll be a sound investment.
