Jim did drill all the holes for me to put the screws in. My understanding is that as of last evening all the boards are now felted which was probably just as well seeing as the heaven's opened overnight. Wise move not to say anything, that was lucky to have the boards felted heaven's opened down here no on the beach today.
RMweb Gold jcarta Posted July 19, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 19, 2020 (edited) Well this morning was the start of the next milestone and by that, we looked at the track layout starting with Ayr Road Sidings. Not a lot will change for this area with the exception of an additional siding & loop line. We will also install several braking sections around the layout to assist the signallers if they are shunting trains. We have had a long chat about Knowmoor track layout and some alterations will be made from the original plan but more about that area later. Next up is a rough idea where the point work will be situated on Ayr Road Sidings And finally Ray done a full size plan of the new layout at Knowmoor a few weeks ago so it was time to unravel it and see how it fits into the area. As I said there will be some minor adjustments made to the layout but all in all it fits, so in the next few days, weather permitting, we will start on permanent way. RMweb Premium Ray H Posted July 19, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 19, 2020 Thanks for the nice comments chaps, appreciated. One thought that I've had since I left you this morning Jim was to change the (Sidings) down loop into an up loop instead. It might be possible to get two trains in it! 1

RMweb Gold jcarta Posted July 21, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 21, 2020 (edited) Yesterday was a day off from the railway so it was spent clearing up the garden, in reality it was a good call considering it has been pretty full on for a few weeks. Not only did I spend the day clearing up I also refreshed the patio furniture with a good clean and a respray ...... Anyway I was still clearing up the garden today when my sidekick texted me to ask about laying some track this afternoon..... well I jumped at the chance and nearly decided to throw all the rubbish into next doors garden but then thought the better of it..... So a few pictures from today, this is the sidings that are situated just as the line leaves the garage, this area will alter slightly but not by too much. The last photo depicts that there is a dip at the points but this is just an optical illusion...... Jim Edited April 2, 2022 by jcarta 4
RMweb Gold jcarta Posted July 22, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 22, 2020 So today after finishing work the afternoon was gladly spent in the garden continuing where we left off yesterday. I spent time soldering my fingers together putting on the omega loops and then continued laying the track in the sidings in readiness to continue laying the main sometime this week. RMweb Gold jcarta Posted July 24, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 24, 2020 (edited) Today’s offering was to continue with the loops and sidings at Ayr Road so I left my sidekick to cut and place the rails whilst I started on the curves. So here are a few pictures of our progress..... you will note that the permanent way hasn’t finished building the single slip at the south end but hopefully by Sunday/ Monday this will be installed..... The last picture will be the start of a new station being installed, local services only.... Edited April 2, 2022 by jcarta 8
RMweb Premium Ray H Posted July 27, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 27, 2020 (edited) Lest anyone should take the pictures too literally and think Jim's lost the plot, here's the single slip that'll replace the piece of corrugated cardboard in some of the above images. Weather permitting it'll be with Jim later today for painting with the (weather permitting) intention of adding it to the layout tomorrow. RMweb Gold jcarta Posted July 28, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 28, 2020 (edited) Seeing as the weather was a washout yesterday I was sent out by SWMBO to tidy up my garage, cheek of it...... Well today was a better day so I spent most of the morning soldering omega clips to the rail joints and I can now confirm that this job has been finalised but only for this area Ray spent the morning fitting the new single slip that he had built, what a fine job he has done (only one more to go matey) then we ran a few trains to see if there are any areas that need rectifying before moving on and I am pleased to report that the loco's and stock ran fine. so here are a few pictures from todays effort. RMweb Gold jcarta Posted July 29, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 29, 2020 (edited) Well today we were up and running to see what our next stage of what we need to do, so after a cuppa and a very long chat about the boxes that will be installed on the front of the layout and how we are going to install the gizmos inside them, So we had another drink and a chat, thirsty work this thinking you know ...... Well anyway Ray brought a small container around with him, frog juicers, oh they look nice, what do they do? then Ray explained what they do and why I need them, lesson over and time for another drink and a snack....... Here is Ray's box of mad frogs. Looks nice....... So I left Ray to play with them whilst I got to work making a platform for them to sit on. Off came the signal box so these little beauties can be fitted underneath away from the elements of the great British weather. Nice platform....... Look at these beauties all lined up and wired up...... Also Ray spent time stapling the wire along side the track so any issues we do not have to spend time under the board looking to rectify any issues if and when they arise. Lastly a quick tidy up of our handy work and then a refit of the signal box ..... you would never know we were here ...... RMweb Gold jcarta Posted July 29, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 29, 2020 (edited) Well this afternoon something a little bit different....... I ordered up loadsa bits from Toolstation, I am now on first name terms with the staff seeing as I am there more times than they are. So the first bits ordered is the trunking for the wiring. The wiring will be installed within the trunking on the front of the boards, more of this later. I think I may have gone over the top on the tubing........ Anyway Ray spotted this on the O Gauge guild on Sunday, it had been on there since March this year and I was surprised it was still available...... A Skytrex Class 31, a good runner with a large can motor installed...... Now this is the best bit ....... £125. Apart from the paint work, although decent, I thought I would give it a strip down and a paint remover bath in readiness to update it and give it a shiny new coat of paint. As it is a skinhead and I am going to keep it as 31418, I will install lights and replace the lower discs. On stripping down all was not well as the window pillars were old and needed replacing so out with the plastic card to start on some new pillars that will require filing down to fit. Ray has the bogies at present and is rewiring them so they will pick up on both bogies, so hopefully in a few weeks this will be a nice addition to the fleet. RMweb Gold jcarta Posted July 30, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 30, 2020 (edited) What a stunning day.... Today was a fruitful day with Ray taking out what he put in yesterday as we both looked at one another and said...." I'm sure that's where the servos's are suppose to be.... PMSL Anyway, Ray took everything out and placed the servo's in situ...... Tomorrow we will build a second floor within the confines of the signal box to house the frog juicers. Are you listening???? So lets have a look at today's exploits They look the bee's Knee's.... Do they work? ..... lndeed yes Anyway look at what the maestro has done now..... all the point cabling has been placed inside the trunking......genius. Right, down to my exploits at the other end of the railway, we do social distance you know Me on the other hand, I have been putting in a station for the local services This is currently how it looks Jim Edited July 30, 2020 by jcarta 3
