Something to work on in between Dreadnoughts...

Obtained second hand from eBay this the Hairdressing Saloon coach from the “Flying Scotsman” train.  It is in some need of restoration...

I have separated the coach body from the chassis and removed most of the chassis “detail” prior to cleaning up the chassis.  New battery boxes and brake gear will be added as per the other coaches built recently.

I plan to paint it in BR maroon livery, which I suspect it never wore.  Does anyone know if this saloon coach ever made it into BR livery?

Cheers

Good morning all

There are so many "what ifs" around: I like clerestory carriages, but they all disappeared well before WW2. I also like articulated carriages and locos and even wagons (there were several virtually articulated bolster wagons).

There was a GCR "What if" 0-10-2T Worsboro' banker

H&B 0-6-6-0T banker

L&Y 0-6-6-0 Mallet

spring to mind.

This thread has inspired me to build some of my Kirk kits in my roundtuit cupboard. I am also rebuilding one of my early Kirks, to make the corridor somewhere near the correct width.

Thanks for your inspiration, Darius

This is simply not true.  On the BR(E) there were NER, GCR. GER, and even one or two ECJS clerestory carriages in service into the early 1950s.  (British Railways pre-nationalisation coaching stock Vol1 gives details).
