RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted October 1, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 1, 2019 (edited) A recently acquired transparency is marked as 27111 and 27117 at Graigendoran.......the only place I can find is the similar but very incorrect Craigendoran. Can anyone nail the location please....its a very interesting train with a former Mk1 Pullman and a Gresley Buffet car in the formation. Could be the Highland line or the West Highland line. 26th April 1975 its dated. Nothing in the sixbells or Railgen websites. Bon Accord
Looks to me to be the southernmost of the two viaducts on the Horseshore Curve, just south of Bridge of Orchy on the WHL. The train is heading North and is quite likely a normal Glasgow-Fort William train. The Scottish Region still had some Gresley Buffet cars on their books until the late 70s.
RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted October 1, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 1, 2019 Great stuff, thank you very much. Looks like its called Glean viaduct. A lot of first class in the train?
RMweb Premium keefer Posted October 1, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 1, 2019 (edited) 27117 is interesting as an example of the initial numbering for cl.27/2 locos. The 27/1 were 27101-12 and 27/2 were 27113-124 - these of course ended up as 27201-12. http://www.6lda28.com/shove.html The date of the pic fits this numbering as there are other pics of 117 into August 1975 at least. Could this train be some sort of corporate hire or 'land cruise'? As Andy points out, there is a lot of 1st. class for a normal train. Bomag
There were a number of excursions etc to Fort William at this time as the old Station closed in June 1975. It could be a locally organised 'end of' Charter.
RMweb Premium keefer Posted October 1, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 1, 2019 (edited) Although there's nothing for that date/those locos on the Six Bells site, there is another entry which involved 2x27 haulage to Fort William & Mallaig in early May: https://www.sixbellsjunction.co.uk/70s/750502wr.html Something similar perhaps? Presumably a rather long train given the 2x27s? Edited October 1, 2019 by keefer
