nicktamarensis
To any Scottish location experts out there - any ideas as to where this J37 is? Somewhere in Fife perhaps? Many thanks. Nick.
KeithMacdonald
Not sure, but BRDatabase says it was allocated to Dundee Tay Bridge loco shed for the whole of its life from 1947 until withdrawal in 1964. If not Fife, perhaps Angus?
clachnaharry
I think it is Edzell.
NBR906
I also think this is Edzell located in Angus, 5 miles north of Brechin. The NBRSG digital archive has a similar image possibly taken the same day, dated 04/03/1961
pH
I agree with Edzell, after the passenger station was demolished - I think that's a platform on the right, beside the bufferstop. The houses on the left, with the unusual upper windows, are still there on Dunlappie Street: https://maps.app.goo.gl/v7YNoiB9gTYj86RS8
RMweb Premium keefer Posted March 10, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 10, 2020 (edited) 1924 25-inch OS map: https://maps.nls.uk/view/82882548#zoom=4&lat=10449&lon=11600&layers=BT I think the loco is on is the line that used to lead to the shed, and the vans are parked on the RHS of the loading bank/platform. clachnaharry
At some time after closure to passengers in 1938, they must have removed the platform lines from both faces and removed the run round loop. They must have then put in a connection between the goods shed siding and truncated main platform road to form a new run round loop. I wonder why they went to all that bother rather than just leaving the original layout intact as happened on almost all other branches which lost their passenger services that early?
