HerbertFrederick
Good morning. I had tried to follow the advice offered before and downloaded Templot only to find that I cannot use it with a MAC. Is there a way round this please?
phixer64
Hiya. There are a couple ways round, this. 1) install Crossover - https://www.codeweavers.com/products/crossover-mac 2) Install Parallels - https://www.parallels.com/uk/ 3) Install VMware - https://www.vmware.com/uk/products/fusion.html All need to be purchased/licensed, or even run in trial mode for a certain date and time Depending on what Mac OS your running, you can run Boor Camp Latest version come with Mac OS, but you still need a licensed copy of Windows to be able run. https://support.apple.com/en-gb/boot-camp I'm currently running VMware Fusion. be careful and patience on how you set it up. Ive installed the virtual machine (windows part) on an external drive. It does need a bit of RAM Specs can be seen here https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2005196 Regards Jeff Edited April 9, 2020 by phixer64

Version I have is VMWare Workstation 14 Player I'm not familiar with Apple operating systems, so perhaps VMWare for iOS isn't free.
phixer64
Hi Damo Im not 100% about VMware for iOS. So, you'll need to look and research it. If using Windows, you don't need to run a VM, as Templot runs natively on Windows. http://www.templot.com Regards Jeff
johndon
I've used Templot and any number of other Windows programs on two Macs for years using VirtualBox which allows you to run Windows on a Mac as seamlessly as though it was running on a PC.
RMweb Gold Harlequin Posted April 9, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 9, 2020 It depends what you intend to use Templot for... Remember it's not a general layout planning tool and if that was the intended purpose then a solution might be to use different software. Specifically, RailModeller Express/Pro on the Mac.

But thanks for replying anyway. Damo

VirtualBox is an entirely free virtual machine software available for macOS as well as Windows and Linux. As mentioned, the first question is why they want to run Templot. If they really need Templot then they need to find some way to run Windows, whether that be going the virtual machine route (and the requirement to buy Windows) or getting a Windows computer.

OK, Thanks mdvle. I'm not an Apple user, so didn't know that MacOS & iOS were different beasts. Now I've learned something new for today I can relax and take it easy for the rest of the day. roythebus
Mac has just changed to the 64 bit OS and a lot of older things won't run on it. I've been using Templot for about 6 years on Mac. On the 32 bit OS I use wine and Wine bottler and it ran perfectly well. With the new 64 bit stuff I've had to buy something or the other but Templot now runs on it. I suggest you go to the Handbuilt Track and Templot group on here or the Templot Club website for further help. I'm not al that tech savvy!

I had tried to follow the advice offered before and downloaded Templot only to find that I cannot use it with a MAC. Is there a way round this please? Hi Herbert, Yes there is. The details are on the Templot web site: http://templot.com/companion/for_you.php Scroll down to "Q. What about an Apple Mac computer ?" Here is the answer: If you have a modern Intel-based Mac computer there are 3 ways to run Templot: a. use a program such as Winebottler (free) or CrossOver to install Linux+Wine on your Mac computer. Templot runs quite well this way, although you may see some issues related to font sizes. This is a popular way of running Templot on a Mac which does not require the purchase of Windows and does not use any Microsoft products. Many other Windows programs (but not all) can also be run this way. b. use virtual machine software such as Parallels Desktop within your normal Mac. This requires the purchase of a copy of Windows. In addition to Templot you will be able to run almost all other Windows programs. c. dual-boot into Windows using BootCamp. This effectively converts your Mac to a Windows PC at switch-on. This also requires the purchase a copy of Windows. Many folks prefer CrossOver as the least expensive option, and not requiring a copy of Windows. More info about CrossOver here: https://www.codeweavers.com/products/crossover-mac cheers, Martin.
Lacathedrale
I use Parallels and other than causing my MacBook to start running high cpu usage, it works great. One thing hopefully @martin_wynne may be able to help with, is that the text scaling for the menus/etc. is way off - normal Windows dialogues/menus/etc. are OK but within Templot it's tiny, i.e. the buttons at the top of the sketchpad, the info boxes, etc.: It looks OK here, but this is because the resolution is quite high on my macbook screen - in reality the red '0' is approx 1.5mm across! Hi William. On the bottom-right of your trackpad screen, drag this slider upwards: There are 3 larger program sizes to choose from. Find which one you find the most comfortable. Left click the ? for more info. Right-click the ? to hide the slider. cheers, Martin. Edited April 29, 2020 by martin_wynne
