andyman7
I've searched the forum for a straightforward guide to a simple hardwired decoder solution but have only been able to find links to fairly advanced jobs involving lighting upgrades etc. What I am after is a decoder recommendation for the power car that can ideally cope with the original lighting installation together with a function only decoder solution for the unpowered vehicle lights, with a simple guide for what to solder where. I don't need interior lights or sound, just something that lets the unit run on a DCC layout replicating its analogue capability. Apologies if this already exists and I am just missing it. warringtonbankquay
The Bachmann 170 and original release Class 158s share a broadly common chassis design. You should be OK following the Class 158 installation instructions here which I found fairly straightforward when installing decoders without a full lighting upgrade: https://clarahost.clara.net/www.bromsgrovemodels.co.uk/bachmanncl158dccInstr.htm Chris 1
Erixtar1992
Most decoders sill be fine with the lights, just gotta wire them the right way round. i only use ESU decoders as i mainly have sound but have in the past used the cheap gaugemaster or Bachmann ones with no problem.
