High Level 14xx chassis

A Happy New Year to all reading this post.

I've been looking on RMWeb and see some threads which contain content but they're either very old (with broken links to pictures) or don't seem to link with the newer site.

I have some questions:

  1. Has anyone any pictures readily to hand of the chassis?
  2. Anyone built one in OO with compensation (which is what I want)?
  3. Plunger or other pickups used?
  4. Tractive effort - did it actually work well and on modest gradients with modest load? (I'd be interested to hear from anyone who built it compensated).

Thanks

(If there are posts already there which I've missed, please just redirect me, sorry...)

I've not built the 14XX chassis but I have built the 64XX chassis in OO, with working twin-beam compensation, as per the design, using wiper pick-ups. My layout isn't large enough to run long trains or have gradients, but the loco runs nice and smoothly at slow speeds.

There is a detailed thread on the building of a High Level 14xx chassis on the Scalefour Forum.   It also shows the detailing done to the donor model.

Paul is on RMweb, his handle is Flymo on account of his ability to mow grass when he should be riding a motorbike!
