RMweb Gold Re6/6 Posted November 21, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 21, 2010 The layout is suffering badly from warping, twisting and swelling up due to being built with the wrong materiels. We live in a salt water laden atmosphere which has got into the fabric of the layout causing the problems. We've decided to 'do an Eridge' style complete rebuild of the boards and the 'rationalisation' of some of the trackwork. We'll be saving all the buildings and as much of the scenics as possible so as to keep the character of the layout. We are taking the opportunity to extend it with a extra board between the fiddle yard exit and the overbridge, which is currently the scenic limit of the layout and lengthening the platforms by about 400mm. Also the layout will be widened slightly by about 200mm so as to give some relief in the refuelling and shed area. It all goes to show that 'prior planning prevents **** poor performance'!! This is the first of the new trackwork made with copperclad and Peco flatbottom rail. Cosmetic stuff to be added. Next is the replacement of the station throat scissors. This will make the third time that it has been rebuilt! We'll get it right in the end...hopefully! The current one is still too tight an angle for reliable stock movement.
