40 058
I have been scanning in some old slides that my uncle took throughout the 80s and 90s, I will gradually scan them all in but there are hundreds of them! If the interest is here I will try to keep adding them on here aswell, but it may take some time!! My uncle was a fitter at Doncaster works and life long railway enthusiast. He passed away in 2006 and I inherited the slide collection. He took many of these at and around Doncaster, some inside the depot itself, aswell as further afield. I have gone through the notes that are with the slides but unfortunatly some are missing aswell as some exact dates. If anyone can help with locations etc etc then please do! So, to start off, Doncaster station and works, April 1985. 56111 sat outside 'the plant'. 58029 under construction. 56064/065 + 50023 47524 50012 Overview of Doncaster station. 47524 45109 leaving Doncaster. 45109 45109 40122 31 Brand new 58025 and 40002 31321 Heavy Gen. 31216 Heavy Gen Sad remains of 46026. 40152 meets its end! 40152 again. 40129 (being cut) 074/085/029/196 all sit on the scrap line. 13003 outside the works. Hopefully more up soon.
40 058
Almost forgot the last few slides from this set. A few scottish pics, 47705 at Edinburgh. 27008 at Edinburgh. 27008 at North queensferry. The last two are of 37002 at Loversall Carr with a train of recovered track panels. This next batch is from June 1986 at a few places around Doncaster on the ECML when the OHLE was being put up. Bawtry, HST set working wrong line, with new masts installed. Bawtry station. Class 37 near Bawtry. Class 101 near Bawtry. DMU Belmont Yard. 56110 Black Carr jnc 56085 Black Carr jnc 31267 Black Carr jnc 31 at Blac Carr jnc HST set 08499 Black Carr jnc New overheads going in. DMU near Doncaster. 47369 near Doncaster. 37 near Doncaster. 37 at rear of Doncaster depot. 47416/405/414 Doncaster depot. 47315 47299 (the jinx!) 31212 Doncaster. And lastly a rather strange, temporary class 50 livery! 50035 out on test from Doncaster works in undercoat! Thats all for tonight!
royaloak
50035 was actually delivered back to the Western Region in that "livery", there are some pictures of it at Bristol Temple Meads on the web. Proper pictures from a proper railway, lovely!
40 058
50035 was actually delivered back to the Western Region in that "livery", there are some pictures of it at Bristol Temple Meads on the web. Proper pictures from a proper railway, lovely! Wow, didnt know it went back like this aswell! Do you know why? I just assumed it was used like this for a few days while it was being overhauled and painted!.
royaloak
I think it was to do with NSE livery being unveiled shortly after 50035 was due to be delivered back to the Western Region and the authorities didnt want to let the cat out the bag early or possibly that Doncaster didnt have the paint spec for NSE livery which had been unveiled at the time, it is something like that. links, not mine unfortunately- http://www.flickr.co...N03/6822784355/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/r_molyneux_gallery/5864438293/ edit, NSE livery was unveiled on 10 june86, 50035 was returned on 15 july 86 so its probable that Doncaster didnt have the paint spec at the time, the 2 original NSE repaints were done at depots, 50017 was painted at Old Oak Common and 50023 was painted at Laira. dvdlcs
Great pictures that bring back memories. Always interesting to see pictures taken in and around works and depots that weren't readily accessible to all. Minor point, but the spelling is Queensferry (one word, not two). Thanks for uploading these. Look forward to seeing more as and when they are scanned :-)
