Christmas on the West Somerset Railway

Yesterday I was part of a party of members of my professional work-related body (the Institution of Railway Operators), who enjoyed a conducted visit to the WSR, including a tour of Minehead loco shed, works and the carriage works. The weather was cold, crisp and sunny, and we had a fantastic time.

3850 receiving some routine attention prior to returning to service next April:

'88' was our motive power earlier in the day from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead, and gave a rousing ascent of Crowcombe Bank. Here she is preparing to return to Bishops Lydeard at lunchtime:

The signalbox seems to have been recently re-painted:

There was a nice view of this Fruit C from the box:

5553 and 6024 were in light steam outside the shed, no doubt getting ready for the Winter Steam Festival today and tomorrow:

Our steed back to Bishops Lydeard after lunch was 4160:

Here she is after arriving at Williton and waiting for '88' to arrive:

On the rear of '88's train was this blue/grey Mark 1 coach, which had apparently recently arrived from Old Oak Common. It isn't that usual to see coaches in this livery on heritage railways these days...

After departing Williton 4160 gave a really rousing performance up the bank to Crowcombe. I must confess to an unashamed moment of pure gricethusiasm and stuck my head out of the front window for most of the way up (goggles, warm hat and scarf included, of course!).

My thanks to the WSR for their kind hospitality yesterday.

Looks like a grand day out Captain.

Thanks for sharing your pictures. I especially like the picture of S&DJR No88 and the unusual shot of Minehead Station. Details there which will come in handy!

Regards Shaun.

Well now. I hadn't noticed that.

Just assumed it was a new thread.

Shows how much notice I take of dates and date formats.

Anyone go to the Gala last weekend?

I wish! Created one of my own back last summer on the layout though.

The date of the OP had slipped my attention when responding to The Captains post. On Googling West Somerset Railway images this came up.

It must be mind boggling the amount of posts that go unnoticed on these forums huh?

Isn't it time you got a promotion to major Captain?

Regards Shaun.
