RMweb Premium Neal Ball Posted January 23, 2010 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 23, 2010 Hi guys, As part of the move from DC to DCC, I spent last weekend going through my loco collection. 7 locoos went for part-exchange at the Engine Shed in Ford (great place!). Obviously I ran into problems with some traction tryes falling off. Having spent last night trawling the web: http://www.Hornby.com/ I managed to identify the part numbers (or their current equivalent) and then went to a couple of spares sites: http://www.hornbyspares.com/ and then http://hornbyrepairs.com/ The first question being have you got the traction tyres "Out of stock" then have you got the complete drive unit, which also came back out of stock. I realise we live in a throw away society, so maybe I need to shrug my shoulders and get out and either buy a Black Beetle, or the new model where available. OR: when traction tyres fall off, so far I have not been able to get them back on, is there an alternative? The locos are: Airfix 14xx Lima class 121 Lima HST The HST I can wait for Hornby to bring out the Merlin livery for an HST and replace it, although I think it might be a livery they are unlikely to do(?) They are more likely to go down the fag packet route(?). I could replace the motor with two Black Beetles, although at ??80 it makes a brand new model more attractive. The class 121 will be easier - black beetle, or buy a brand new Hornby one and permanently couple the two together. The Airfix 14xx - I dont have a solution to that one, unless Hornby bring a revised version out in the next couple of years. I'm loathed to go to Ebay as the traction tyres might be about to go on that one! Thoughts / Suggestions would be welcome. Thanks very much.
shortliner
Traction Tyres? - I have a loco that had missing tyres, and bought a little tub of "Bullfrog Snot" from a guy on ebay in UK, which seems to work well, but let it dry thoroughly after application. Fat Controller
You could always try giving East Kent Models a bell- they don't do Internet, so you wouldn't find them there- on 01227 770777. They seem to have Hornby spares going back years. There's also David Wills, who I first encountered at Canterbury show last weekend- 01843 833274 or mobile 07803 229235. Courtney
There used to be an ebay seller called - total tyreman who did lima traction tyres (or equivalent). I bought some for lima models - a 117 I recall so that should sort the 121 out.
