    Pendon Masterclass - Weathering with Tim Shackleton
     
    Tim Shackleton is well known as the author of Aspects of Modelling: Weathering Locomotives and of the two 'Right Track' series DVDs on weathering techniques. He is also the former editor of MRJ.
     
    Tim will will lead this day of hands-on tuition that will focus on helping participants to acquire or improve locomotive and/or rolling stock weathering skills.
     
    The day starts at 09:30 and runs through to 16:30.
     
    Iwata airbrushes, compressors, spray booths and other weathering equipment will be provided. Participants should bring along suitable models for weathering along with their preferred paints and relevant colour photographs.
     
    The Masterclass is limited to 6 participants and bookings will be taken on a 'first come basis'. They can only be made via the Pendon web shop. http://bit.ly/W8LEc9
     
    Please note that there are two separate but identical Masterclasses - one on 14th September and one on 15th. Please make sure that you are booking the right one. We do reserve the right to combine the two Masterclasses if sufficient places are not taken up.
     
    The fee includes light refreshments during the day.

    The Derwent Railway Society Open day will take place on Sunday 15 September 2013 at our premises in Phoenix Court, Cleator Moor, CA25 5PT. We are just off the main square in the town centre. Parking is free in the main square.
     
    There will be 4 layouts (oo and N gauge) in operation. Our society railway heritage items will be avaialble for viewing.
     
    Tea, Coffee and cakes will be available.
     
    Visitors are welcome to bring their own 00 gauge locos to run on our layouts (both DC and DCC).
     
    All visitors welcome - it is FREE!

    • Robertsbridge Model Railway Show 24-25 May 2025

         Good little show. Bit biased though as I’m exhibiting at the show and have done so for a couple of years now.
       
    • Gauge O Guild Winter Show

    • The National Festival of Railway Modelling @ NEC

         Considering this is the first show by BRM I thought they did a reall good job. 
      Quibbles: I know you have to rent the floorspace by the square metere, but it got a bit crowded at times between stalls/layouts. 
      Positives: Lots of good trade support, some superb layouts, and very helpful friendly staff.
      Warley was always going to be a hard act to follow, and the organisers did well. 
      I can see this growing in the future 
    • Tyneside Model Railway Exhibition

         Drove down from Lanark early on Saturday morning (6 hour round trip!) to arrive shortly after 10am.  The first surprise was seeing my cousin showing his O gauge layout in the foyer (shown as east Glasson port authority on the programme but it wasn't that). Nice to have a chat with him as we've not met for a couple of years. Moving on to the main halls, there seemed to be plenty of space for viewing, helped no doubt by my being there so early. I'd driven down especially to see Grantham, Pelaw and Fencehouses having seen them in the mags and I wasn't disappointed so spent at least an hour swapping between the three. All three layouts exceeded expectations but it was also great to see Richmond in the flesh, it having only just appeared in print last month. I saw Alston in Glasgow in February and there's been no drop in quality. However,  my favourite (and I'm probably biased as I'm modelling the s&c) was Kirtley Bridge - what a superb layout, the quality of modelling and the atmosphere was outstanding. I think I spent around 3 hours at the show and was absolutely wrecked by the time I got home but it was well worth it. I'll be watching out for next year's dates to make sure they're kept clear.
