    26 October 2019

The Mid Wales Model Railway Show 2019
Organised by the Newtown Model Railway Society
Welshpool Town Hall, Saturday 26th October 2019,
    Doors open 10am, close 5pm
    Layouts in the main hall;-
Roy Link “Crowsnest Tramway” – taking a break from his publishing business to show his superlative 16mm scale model – we believe for the first time in public.
Karl Crowther “Hebble Vale Goods” – guest editor of Model Railway Journal and professional modelmaker with a superb rendition of the Lancashire and Yorkshire borders in 4mm scale EM gauge.
Paul Holmes “Hulme End” – another new narrow gauge layout in 7mm scale from a prolific builder of quality models. 17.5mm track gauge, DCC with sound and smoke effects
Ben Lord “Amalgamated Wagon Works” – showing the 7mm standard gauge layout first built by David H Smith, Ben and the Rochdale group have turned this in to an entertaining shunting layout, proving that good 7mm scale can be built in small spaces.
Barrie Johnston “Pen-y-Graig” – a skilfully executed slate quarry model in 5.5mm scale. Completely scratchbuilt with working incline and man powered wagons. Possibly the most atmospheric slate quarry model since Dave Rowe’s early dioramas.
Iain Chippendale “Clough Street Sidings” – 7mm scale standard gauge – Iain and his team from the Alsager MRS have supported our show in the past – This is another of the excellent layouts that they have built over the years. Visitors are encouraged to try their hand at operating.
Peter Kazer “Blythborough” – Peter is probably one of the best narrow gauge modellers in the country today and has been a long term supporter of the Welshpool Show. The model is built to a scale of ¼ inch to the foot and represents the intermediate station on the Southwold Railway – absolutely top class modelling.
Tony Bucknell “ Harkness” – based on the North Sunderland Railway this is a first for Tony in EM gauge , and features some excellent kit built rolling stock.
Newtown Model Railway Society “Pool Road” - the host club’s 4mm finescale layout has recently been rewired and renovated. Not often on the exhibition trail – enjoy it while you can.
Full support from the Corris Railway Society, the Bishop’s Castle Railway Society and the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway Society, including Dave Rowe’s iconic “Llareggub” in OO9.
Trade support from Tractex, Buffer Books and John Percival’s Walsworth Models.
Full demonstration of modelling by Phil May and Derek Mundy.
Tea, Coffee and cakes will be available to the public in the lower hall, together with displays by the Cambrian Engineering Society, Walter Turner, Alan Crowe with the W&L town trail and a first appearance of the Newtown MRS “Montgomery ( Bishop’s Castle Railway )“.

    26 October 2019

The Newhaven & District Model Railway Club 2019 exhibition is being held at the Seaford Baptist Church Hall, Belgrave Road, Seaford, East Sussex BN25 2EE on Saturday 26th October 2018 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. The venue is a 5 minute walk from Seaford Station turning left from the station onto the A259 towards Newhaven; it is just past the British Legion on the right hand side of the road. Brighton & Hove buses 12 and 12A stop close by.

The club has now been in existence for 60 years and after some recent turbulent times we have finally found and moved into our own clubroom in a secure location of Newhaven which has disabled access, we have also achieved charitable status, so like most clubs we have bills to pay, please support out show, in turn we support the local community.

Layouts appearing at this year’s show:-

Brankstone from Uckfield MRC, BR(S) 1950-60’s set near Bournemouth on two levels, an MPD and two converging branch lines.
Doug Dale OO Gauge LMS, this is the latest layout from Brighton MRC, 1930’s LMS - early BR(M), set on a Peak District branch line with a limestone quarry.
Eastbridge MPD OO Gauge from East Grinstead MRC, a small depot at a busy junction on the Brighton main line.
Hope Hill from Burgess Hill MRC, a 1950’s model of a branch line off the Manchester to Sheffield Trans-Pennine line used for transferring fluorspar to the Sheffield Steel Works.
Lyndale and Lynwood, two separate OO9 layouts. This shows you how to build a layout in small spaces and still retain some operational interest.
Making Tracks by Newhaven & District MRC, this is the clubs start towards a series of railway modelling courses for club members and the general public.
Portwenn from Simon King, a fictitious narrow-gauge railway halfway along the Northern shore of the Camel Estuary in Cornwall at the end of a line from Camelford; the line being built to serve quarries extracting granite and slate.
Strathmore by Toby, a DCC operated layout with a Scottish theme based around Glasgow.
Upperton N Gauge Layout from Eastbourne MRS, a fictitious location near Salisbury where through traffic from the north, east and south pass through to the west country resorts.
Ventnor & Wroxall OO Gauge, N&DMRC, a model of the end of the Isle of Wight line from Ryde, set from the 1930’s to late 40’s.
Wenvoe Quarry OO Gauge from Adrian Taylor Bognor Regis MRC, based on an actual Cemex quarry in Cardiff
Westfield from Andrew Chatfield, a BR (S+W) small country station on a single track mainline with a small loco shed.
Woody Bay Railway Station from Dave Halstead, N&DMRC, a model of the station on the Lynton and Barnstable Railway

    Support also from
    Double O Gauge Association
    Euroscale Models
    Kent Garden Railways

Good little show. Bit biased though as I’m exhibiting at the show and have done so for a couple of years now.

    • Gauge O Guild Winter Show
      By LAWLOGG Editor,
A few words about the show, some pictures of us setting up our stands (and, more significantly, a comprehensive video of the attendees) are available at this link.
    • The National Festival of Railway Modelling @ NEC
      By 7013,
Considering this is the first show by BRM I thought they did a reall good job.
Quibbles: I know you have to rent the floorspace by the square metere, but it got a bit crowded at times between stalls/layouts.
Positives: Lots of good trade support, some superb layouts, and very helpful friendly staff.
Warley was always going to be a hard act to follow, and the organisers did well.
I can see this growing in the future
    • Tyneside Model Railway Exhibition
      By jacko,
Drove down from Lanark early on Saturday morning (6 hour round trip!) to arrive shortly after 10am.  The first surprise was seeing my cousin showing his O gauge layout in the foyer (shown as east Glasson port authority on the programme but it wasn't that). Nice to have a chat with him as we've not met for a couple of years. Moving on to the main halls, there seemed to be plenty of space for viewing, helped no doubt by my being there so early. I'd driven down especially to see Grantham, Pelaw and Fencehouses having seen them in the mags and I wasn't disappointed so spent at least an hour swapping between the three. All three layouts exceeded expectations but it was also great to see Richmond in the flesh, it having only just appeared in print last month. I saw Alston in Glasgow in February and there's been no drop in quality. However,  my favourite (and I'm probably biased as I'm modelling the s&c) was Kirtley Bridge - what a superb layout, the quality of modelling and the atmosphere was outstanding. I think I spent around 3 hours at the show and was absolutely wrecked by the time I got home but it was well worth it. I'll be watching out for next year's dates to make sure they're kept clear.
      Graeme
