Twickenham & District MRC's annual Open Day will feature six working layouts in O, OO and N plus two demonstrations - weathering and wiring - plus static displays, refreshments and the club s/h stand.

    Layouts :

KENSINGTON ADDISON ROAD : This large and ambitious 7mm layout has been seen at many of the county's biggest shows in the last two years and now the club has the chance to show it to local modellers in our spacious clubroom.
EASTGATE : Our new current era OO layout - D&E modellers VERY welcome - come and talk to us!
MILTON : We are starting a new N gauge layout very soon - in the mean time we are showing our large modular N gauge project.
OO SHUNTING PUZZLE : Come and have a go!
MEMBER'S GUEST LAYOUT - What might it be?
DRIVE-A-TRAIN : For our younger visitors

You can read about ADDISON ROAD on its thread on RMweb. Here's a recent photo and if you come to our open day we'll tell you why there's an elephant on the platform - honestly it's authentic!

    13 July 2019 09:00      14 July 2019 16:00

Middleton Railway, The Station, Moor Road, Hunslet, LEEDS, LS10 2JQ

Organised by, and all proceeds to, the Middleton Railway Trust

Open 10:00 to 17:00 each day (steam passenger trains operating regularly between 11:00 and 16:00), light refreshments available in the shop/café.
Admire the models set amongst the real thing in our Engine House and you can travel on a full size steam train. There is also the opportunity to drive a full size locomotive, now in their third century of operation at Middleton, as we will be operating a footplate experience on one of our locomotives – when did you last do that at a Model Railway Exhibition? Just £10 and no need to book in advance, just turn up on the day. Please note that you must be at least 18 years old and not older than 76 to take part in the footplate experience.

With the exception of the footplate experience all areas of the exhibition and the train ride are accessible to visitors with disabilities.

     Admission:
     Exhibition/Engine House/Platform only
    Adult: £5.50
    Child: £2.50
    Family: £14.00

Exhibition/Engine House plus unlimited train rides:

We are expecting up to 12 layouts in a variety of scales: O, EM, OO, HO, HOe, T & 009 at least. Layouts will include: Dornochbahn (HOe), Deffors (O), John Street Yard (EM), Low Moor (T), Reevy Road West (OO) & Roanoke Roundhouse (HO)

Reminding us that model railways are fun too we have vintage Tri-ang and some ‘hands on’ layouts – all upstairs in our ‘play room’!

Traders will include Keith’s Model Railways, Helm Models & Hobbies, Leigh Models and Hobbies, Going Loco and some second hand tables.

This is an event for all the family – not just the modeller. When the non-modellers have exhausted the facilities we offer at Moor Road we have Middleton Woods and Park at the top of the line, the Tulip Retail Park is opposite and the White Rose Shopping Centre is just a short distance away. We pride ourselves on a welcome for all – come and experience it for yourselves.

    • Robertsbridge Model Railway Show 24-25 May 2025
      By clogger,
Good little show. Bit biased though as I’m exhibiting at the show and have done so for a couple of years now.

    • Gauge O Guild Winter Show
      By LAWLOGG Editor,
A few words about the show, some pictures of us setting up our stands (and, more significantly, a comprehensive video of the attendees) are available at this link.
    • The National Festival of Railway Modelling @ NEC
      By 7013,
Considering this is the first show by BRM I thought they did a reall good job.
Quibbles: I know you have to rent the floorspace by the square metere, but it got a bit crowded at times between stalls/layouts.
Positives: Lots of good trade support, some superb layouts, and very helpful friendly staff.
Warley was always going to be a hard act to follow, and the organisers did well.
I can see this growing in the future
    • Tyneside Model Railway Exhibition
      By jacko,
Drove down from Lanark early on Saturday morning (6 hour round trip!) to arrive shortly after 10am.  The first surprise was seeing my cousin showing his O gauge layout in the foyer (shown as east Glasson port authority on the programme but it wasn't that). Nice to have a chat with him as we've not met for a couple of years. Moving on to the main halls, there seemed to be plenty of space for viewing, helped no doubt by my being there so early. I'd driven down especially to see Grantham, Pelaw and Fencehouses having seen them in the mags and I wasn't disappointed so spent at least an hour swapping between the three. All three layouts exceeded expectations but it was also great to see Richmond in the flesh, it having only just appeared in print last month. I saw Alston in Glasgow in February and there's been no drop in quality. However,  my favourite (and I'm probably biased as I'm modelling the s&c) was Kirtley Bridge - what a superb layout, the quality of modelling and the atmosphere was outstanding. I think I spent around 3 hours at the show and was absolutely wrecked by the time I got home but it was well worth it. I'll be watching out for next year's dates to make sure they're kept clear.
      Graeme
