The Moseley Railway Trust has made good progress with the construction of the 2'0" gauge Apedale Valley Light Railway at the Apedale site near Newcastle-Under-Lyme, North Staffordshire. It is expected that the operation of public passenger trains will commence during the summer of 2010. More details at www.mrt.org.uk
A Grand Opening Gala will be held at Apedale on September 18th and 19th. During this weekend, the official opening ceremony will take place – and the Trust is planning that a VIP will "cut the ribbon".
It is planned that will be three locomotives in steam, with a range of internal combustion locos also operating. In all there should be in excess of 65 locomotives present. Surely sufficient to whet the most jaded appetite? There will be a number of narrow gauge model railways in a variety of scales from the delights of Hull Miniature Railway Society's `Barrowfleet' (009 and 00) and Hazel Grove MRC's penultimate outing of "The High Peak Tramway" (O16.5) right up to `Hookers Junction' in 1/12th scale. Additionally there will be a wide range of traders, vintage vehicles and other attractions. Our colleagues at the adjacent Apedale Heritage Centre will be running underground tours of their coal mine, and the café will doubtless be doing a roaring trade with their legendary oatcakes.
This is the perfect opportunity for narrow gauge modellers of any scale to get `up close and personal' with camera and tape measure to a considerable range of locomotives and is not to be missed.
See www.mrt.org.ukfor more details of what will be one of the Narrow Gauge "events of the year". The `how to find us' button on our website provides maps and useful sets of directions.

By SealionSteve,
A great show, as always. Some excellent layouts. Thank you to all concerned.

Weston-Super-Mare Model Railway Show 2026
By ianmianmianm,
Great mix of layouts and trade,
....but the floorplan created real bottlenecks around the entrance which was also the route between halls (via the changing rooms!) and so was already going to be busy anyway. But there were further trade stands and coffee stand put there.... creating groups of people lingering and blocking...... why oh why!
The catering van outside - ended up giving up because as we all stood queuing to buy food, nothing happening in the van, there was a lot of playing with kids and babies but the 4 people there couldn't manage to free up one to take orders.

SOUTHAMPTON MODEL RAILWAY SHOW -JANUARY 24TH/25TH 2026
By Robin Brasher,
Despite South West Trains' best efforts I managed to get to the exhibition on time. I had my doubts when they announced at Southampton Central Station that my train would be running non stop to Waterloo but I got on a Cross Country train that stopped at Southampton Airport. The pictures show:
1. My arrival at the exhibition on a heritage bus provided by the organisers.
2. There were a lot of people at the exhibition and a huge queue for the coffee machines. There seemed to be more people there than in previous years.
3. Essence of Ventnor in 0 gauge was one of the splendid layouts there. I saw it last year at the Brockenhurst exhibition.
4. Seaton Junction in 00 gauge was another interesting layout. There was an N gauge model of Seaton Junction at Pecorama that it donated to our model railway club so I found it interesting to see Seaton Junction in a larger scale.
I was not so lucky with my return journey as South West Trains was unable to run any trains from Southampton Central to Bournemouth and Weymouth so I ended up having to catch a taxi to Bournemouth.

WMRA Annual Exhibition
By Robin Brasher,
Excellent show. plenty of free parking, over 30 layouts, lots of traders and full catering. I liked the scenery on the illustrated 009 gauge Feorag layout set in an imaginary island west of Cornwall. TT:120 seems to be well received with two small oval layouts on display.
