    It’s back, it’s bigger, it’s better!
    More space! More layouts!

Following the success of Manchester Model Railway Society’s relaunched city centre exhibition in 2015, the Society has today
released details of the attractions at this year’s show. The exhibition will be on

    Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th December 2016,

and will again be held in the Barnes Wallis building of the
University of Manchester’s northern campus, a mere 250m from Piccadilly Station.

    Opening times are as follows;
    Saturday 10:00 - 17:30,
    Sunday 10:00 - 16:30.
Advance ticket holders admitted at 09:45 each day.
Adult price £8 on the door or £7 in advance (advance ticket includes a free exhibition guide.).
Children under 5 free, children 5 - 16: two admitted free with each adult ticket, extra children £4. No unaccompanied children under 16.
Wheelchair bound visitors may bring one carer free of charge.
More exhibition space has been hired this year and, in addition, the catering area has been almost doubled in size and will
open for longer, serving a much wider variety of food throughout the day. Exhibition coordinator, Philip Sweet, said:
“We have listened carefully to the feedback from last year’s visitors
and are acting on it to make the exhibition bigger and better than
ever. In line with their wishes we have increased the exhibition
space, improved the catering and have invited more layouts – there
should be twenty this year, two more than in 2015. One thing which
has not changed is the quality of the layouts; most of them have
been featured in one or more of the national railway modelling
magazines in the last 18 months. The variety of traders this year will
be even greater and we are arranging a number of activities designed
    for families and children.
With Manchester’s acclaimed Christmas street markets nearby, our
show is the perfect destination for your Christmas shopping”
The Society website contains details and pictures of all the layouts, and much
more information about the exhibition. http://mmrs.co.uk/exhibition/

    • Immingham Model Railway Show
      By SealionSteve,
A great show, as always. Some excellent layouts. Thank you to all concerned.
    • Weston-Super-Mare Model Railway Show 2026
      By ianmianmianm,
Great mix of layouts and trade,

....but the floorplan created real bottlenecks around the entrance which was also the route between halls (via the changing rooms!) and so was already going to be busy anyway. But there were further trade stands and coffee stand put there.... creating groups of people lingering and blocking......       why oh why!

The catering van outside - ended up giving up because as we all stood queuing to buy food, nothing happening in the van, there was a lot of playing with kids and babies but the 4 people there couldn't manage to free up one to take orders.

    • SOUTHAMPTON MODEL RAILWAY SHOW -JANUARY 24TH/25TH 2026
      By Robin Brasher,
Despite South West Trains' best efforts I managed to get to the exhibition on time. I had my doubts when they announced at Southampton Central Station that my train would be running non stop to Waterloo but I got on a Cross Country train that stopped at Southampton Airport. The pictures show:
      1. My arrival at the exhibition on a heritage bus provided by the organisers.
      2. There were a lot of people at the exhibition and a huge queue for the coffee machines. There seemed to be more people there than in previous years.
      3. Essence of Ventnor in 0 gauge was one of the splendid layouts there. I saw it last year at the Brockenhurst exhibition.
      4. Seaton Junction in 00 gauge was another interesting layout. There was an N gauge model of Seaton Junction at Pecorama that it donated to our model railway club so I found it interesting to see Seaton Junction in a larger scale.

I was not so lucky with my return journey as South West Trains was unable to run any trains from Southampton Central to Bournemouth and Weymouth so I ended up having to catch a taxi to Bournemouth.

    • WMRA Annual Exhibition
      By Robin Brasher,
Excellent show. plenty of free parking, over 30 layouts, lots of traders and full catering. I liked the scenery on the illustrated 009 gauge Feorag layout set in an imaginary island west of Cornwall. TT:120 seems to be well received with two small oval layouts on display.
